Fair closes on high note
Livestock auction sets new sales record

A wonderful fair week was wrapped up with awesome support of the junior fair kids’ animal projects at the annual livestock auction. There were 285 animals sold in the ring, bringing a total of $158,796.07 in bids, a new record sale. Victoria Zuber’s grand champion market steer brought in the most money at $5,500.

Looking at the landscape can give passers-by a good indication of time’s passage. Seasonal changes are the most obvious, but a glance at the farmers’ fields can provide excellent clues as well. June is haymaking time and now that it’s over, most of the first cutting has come off. These round bales populate a field in Emerald Township. Farmers are keeping close eyes on the progress of their ripening wheat and getting their combines ready for harvest which is not too far away.
