ANTWERP — The Antwerp Rotary Club is pleased to announce the dedication of the Antwerp Greenway Park tennis court that will be held Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m. at the tennis court, located at 118 N. Main St. in Antwerp.
The Rotary Club wants to thank all of the contributors, organizations, clubs and individuals who provided their funds, materials and/or labor for the projects completion.
This project included the use of 80 tons of stone, approximately 100 yards of concrete, 100 gallons of primers, 140 gallons of colored surface paint, 30 rolls of masking tape, three gallons of line paint and 7.4 tons of finish stone.
The pad is painted and the lines are placed for both full-court tennis and pickleball.
U.S.A. Pickleball Association Ambassador for northeast Indiana, Bob Beutler, will also attend the dedication to give an explanation and demonstration on pickleball.
According to usapa.org, pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. It is played both indoors and outdoors on a badminton sized court and a sightly modified tennis net. A paddle and plastic ball with holes are the basic equipment needed and it can be played as singles or doubles.
Grading and seeding are done and the lights for night time play are ready to go for spring. The lights are fully operated by a timer switch located on the side of the village hall building.
