Dear Editor,

The Paulding County Fair is going to be here soon. The dates are June 12-17.

The 4-H program is well under way with the children getting their projects done and ready for judging.

They do a fantastic job of making our fair a successful one.

I would like to encourage adults and community organizations to support the fair. The domestic department for the open class entries has not been supported for quite a while. There are a variety of areas that you might just find an interest in. In the fair book, you will find categories for candy, pies, cakes and breads. If those categories do not appeal to you, how about sewing or displaying those early vegetables that you canned from your garden produce? Maybe you have a green thumb when it comes to houseplants or gardening.

By now you are probably thinking, “I don’t do any of those.” So how about photography? We all have an antique or two sitting around our homes. Maybe you would like to display something very unique or dating back to your great-grandparents.

You can see that the opportunities are endless. Should you choose to join in the open class entries, there are three money prizes given for each category.

Registration for the open class domestic entries is one week prior to the fair and entry fee is $10. Every year, new fair board officers are elected. With your entry fee, you have the privilege of letting your vote count.

Fair books will be available soon at the local libraries and the county extension office. The youth of our county are doing their part. Let’s support them by improving on the open class entries.
