|Justin Bute named Player of the Year|
After leading the county in both points scored and rebounds, Antwerp’s Justin Bute was selected as the Paulding County Progress 2011-12 Paulding County Boys Basketball Player of the Year honors in voting by county coaches and media last week.
Bute topped the Archer lineup with 12.5 points and 6.8 rebounds a night and finished the season hitting 60 percent from the field (91 of 151).
“He is a great role model for our youth, both on and off the floor,” noted Antwerp head coach Scott McMichael. “Justin is extremely coachable and very team oriented. He has an exceptional work ethic and plays the game with tremendous effort. He is undersized but outworks people on the defensive end of the floor.”
Joining Bute on the First Team is his Archer teammate Tommy Taylor along with Wayne Trace’s Grady Gudakunst, Paulding’s Anthony Arellano, the Raiders’ Dalton Sinn and the Panthers’ Neil Roehrig.
Tommy Taylor chipped in 8.9 points per game for the Archers while adding 44 assists and 28 steals. The Archer guard also connected on 38 treys on the season.
Grady Gudakunst posted 8.7 markers a night for the red, white and blue and led the county with 82 assists while recording 35 steals. Wayne Trace also led the county in free throw percentage at 79 percent (64 of 81) and hit 13 treys on the year.
Anthony Arellano recorded 11 points and picked up 5.5 rebounds per game to lead Paulding while also shooting 50 percent (85-171) from the field. The Panther forward dished out 26 assists for the maroon and white and posted a dozen steals.
