Michigan Southern Railroad Co. has filed a notice of exemption to acquire and operate the Maumee & Western Railroad in northwest Ohio, according to a recent notice by from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Surface Transportation Board.

Michigan Southern (MSO), a Class III rail carrier, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Pioneer Railcorp, headquartered in White Pigeon, Mich. MSO proposes to acquire and operate an approximately 51-mile rail line between Woodburn and Liberty Center, which traverses northern Paulding County.

MSO has reached an agreement for the transaction with RMW Ventures LLC, which owns the line, and with Maumee & Western Railroad Corporation, which operates the line.
