ROBERT E. DAVIS 1928-2012

LIMA – Robert E. Davis, 84, of Lima, died at 12:37 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31 at Richland Manor in Bluffton.

Born Oct. 23, 1928 in Paulding County, he was the son of Dale W. and Ruby D. (Ritchie) Davis. On June 25, 1950, in Payne, he married Ethel Amspaugh, who survives in Lima. He served in the United States Army from 1949-55. He retired after 30 years from the Ford Motor Company and previously had worked at Pangles Markets. He enjoyed gardening, target shooting, and loved camping with the family. He loved vacations each summer. He enjoyed videos, especially old westerns.

Also surviving are two sons, Steve (Pat) Davis of Lima and David (Elaine) Davis of Palmyra, Pa.; three daughters, Ellen (Bill) Johnson of Beattyville, Ky., Lisa (Phillip Rinehart) Davis of Lima and Concepcion Davis of Marrero, La.; and special friends, Ralph and Cathy Whetsel and Rick and Beth Bracy.

He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Paul Davis; a daughter-in-law, Christine; and a granddaughter, Noel Lynette.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima with Pastor James Neighbors officiating. Interment will be in Ridge Cemetery, Middle Point, with a graveside military service conducted by the United States Army.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 at the funeral home.

GEORGE “MIKE” McKEEVER 1946-2012

ANTWERP – George Michael “Mike” McKeever, age 66, died Sunday, Dec. 30 at his residence.

He was born Oct. 5, 1946 in Fort Wayne, the son of George A. and Phyllis J. (Guysinger) McKeever. He married Carol A. Bannister, who survives. He retired in 2006 from Eaton Corporation. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. He was a member of AMVETS Post Ohio 1991, Defiance; American Legion #0253 of Antwerp, Paulding Eagles #2405; VFW Post #5087; and the High Hill Gun Club, Duncan Falls, Ohio. He was an avid hunter.

Also surviving are two sons, Mike (Wendy Baumert) McKeever and Chad (Staci) McKeever, both of Antwerp; two sisters, Judy (Joe) Phlipot, Paulding, and Melissa (Jeff) Roberts, Goshen, Ind.; five grandchildren, Jessica, Christina, Logan, Lance and Luke; and three great-grandchildren, Corey and Chaz Moore and Rashelle McKeever.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Private memorial services will be held Thursday, Jan. 3. Den Herder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

NORMAN MANLEY 1921-2012

PAULDING – Norman Russell Manley, 91, of Paulding, passed away Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 at The Gardens of Paulding.

He was born in Paulding on July 12, 1921, the son of Richard and Effie (Anspach) Manley. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a carpenter and also farmed, but most of all loved working with horses.

Surviving are his sister, LaDonna Geyer of Antwerp, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Blake, Richard, Leroy, Harry and Frank Manley, Alice Luderman, Velma Comadoll, Faye Farison, June Horney and Patricia Proxmire.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Cooper Cemetery with military honors.

Preferred memorials are to Paulding Hospice.

GLENN GEIST 1931-2012

PAYNE – Alva Glenn Geist, 81, of Payne, passed away Sunday, Dec. 30 at his residence.

He was born on April 25, 1931 in Fort Wayne, the son of Cecil Glenn and Fanny Marie (Ligon) Geist. On Sept. 27, 1986, he married Elizabeth Mull, who survives. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a machine repairman at General Electric.

Also surviving are two children, S. Michael and Joy M. Geist, both of Churubusco, Ind.; three stepchildren, Kelley Latimer and Kim (Bill) Daniels, both of Van Wert, and Kent Latimer of Anniston, Ala.; a brother, Max, of Corunna, Ind.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Kay Anne.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at Lehman Cemetery, Payne.

Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 at Dooley Funeral Home, Payne.

Preferred memorials are to Alzheimer’s Association.

MARY MOTYCKA 1923-2012

CONTINENTAL – Mary M. Motycka, 89, of Continental, died at 3:17 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27 at Twin Rivers Care and Rehabilitation Center, Defiance.

She was born March 6, 1923 in Paulding, the daughter of Alois and Mary (Kominek) Dvorak. On Feb. 2, 1946, she married Joseph Motycka, who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 2007. She retired as head cook at Elmwood High School in Bloomdale and had worked at Heinz in Bowling Green. She was also a homemaker and worked with her husband on their dairy farm. She was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, and a member of the Czech Society of America.

Surviving are three children, Janet (Ken) Niese of Continental, Linda (Dwight) Niese of Lancaster, Pa. and Eugene “Gene” (Nancy) Motycka of Lima; six grandchildren, Andrew (Glenna) Niese, Julie (Rick) Hostettler, Vanessa (Junius) Frederick, Damon (Traci) Niese, Joseph Motycka and David Motycka; and six great-grandchildren, Christian Niese, Owen Niese, Cassie Hostettler, Zander Hostettler, Hayden Frederick and Saxon Niese.

She also  was preceded in death by a brother, Alois Dvorak.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Miller City, with Fr. Stephen Schroeder officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Bowling Green at 3 p.m.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3 at Love Funeral Home, Ottawa, where there will be a rosary at 2 p.m.

NANCY EITNIEAR 1935-2012

DEFIANCE – Nancy A Eitniear, 77, of Defiance, passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, at the Mercy Hospital of Defiance.

She was born April 30, 1935, the daughter of Galen and Florence (Lantz) Brewer. On Nov. 20, 1953 she married James Eitniear and he preceded her in death on April 2, 2003. She was a devoted mom and grandma. She worked at JC Penney and in the pharmacy at the former Defiance Hospital. She had also been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church.

Surviving are three daughters, Kathy (Sidney) Weber of Delphos, Cindy (Wayne) Newman of Defiance, Becky (James) Bidlack of Greenwood, S.C.; 10 grandchildren, Corey (Marie), Zachary, Adam (Melissa), and Ian (Kristen) Weber, Lindsay, Lance and Brent Newman, Holly Zipfel, Danielle (Brad) Fitzmorris, Sara (Scott) Aiken, nine great-grandchildren and one expected; a brother Terry (Bonnie) Brewer of Defiance; two sisters, Linda Varner of Defiance and Susan (John) Keeler of Paulding and a special friend Don Hull of Defiance.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Jo Eitniear and a brother, Larry Brewer.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 29, at the Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with the Rev. Joe Graves officiating. Burial will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance.

Calling hours will be from 2-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at the funeral home.

MARY LaFONTAINE 1927-2012

Mary Gazelle LaFontaine, 85, formerly of Defiance, passed away Dec. 19, at the Blake Medical Center in Bradenton, Fla.

She was born on April 22, 1927 in Paulding, the daughter of Alva and Zena (Shreve) Snodgrass. She graduated from Paulding High School. On Nov. 9, 1946, in Ky., she married Douglas J. LaFontaine, who preceded her in death on May 27, 1992. They raised their family in Hamilton, Ind. and Edgerton, Ohio and were members of St. Marys Catholic Church. They traveled and camped with several friends for many years.

In 1995, Mary relocated to Florida where she and a longtime friend of the family, Floyd R. Bell, spent 11 years together, until Floyd’s death on July 19, 2006.

She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Robert) Albright of

Defiance, and Jeanne (John Streff) Royal of Bradenton, Fla., a brother, William (Ruth) Snodgrass of Paulding; grandchildren: Julee (Rudy) Morris of Defiance, Kim Albright-Good of Defiance, Douglas (Tracy) Williamson of Montpelier, John (Heather) Adams of Mark Center, Justin (Leisa) Adams of Bryan, Jessica (Mark Johnson) Adams of Defiance; great-grandchildren: Jose R (Jessica Bright) Hernandez IV of Osprey, Fla., Alex Hernandez of Osprey, Fla., Zachary Morris, Tyson and Brady Williamson, Kennedy, Braelyn, McKenzie, and Jacob Adams, Hailey, Ryan, and Bryar Johnson; great-great-grandchild, Aliana Hernandez; step grandchild, Brian (Albright) Stamper; step great-grandchildren: Holly Grieser, Mindy (Fredy) Argueta, Rick (Amy) Good, Scott (Leslie) Good, Kesia Keesbury; step great-great-grandchildren, Brendan and Courtney Good and Sydney and Jared Grieser.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Snodgrass; and three sisters: Kathleen Hart, Colleen Culp and Lynda Lee.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, at the St. Marys Catholic Church, in Defiance, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will take place in the Riverview Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 28, at Hanenkrath-Clevenger-Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance.

JAMES CASEY CLARK 1931-2012

PAULDING – James “Casey” M. Clark, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 23 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

He was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Paulding County, the son of Leo P. and Ethel (Powers) Clark. On April 14, 1956 he married Kathryn A. Buchman, who survives. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, Paulding. He retired from GM Powertrain, Defiance in 1989. He was also a member of Paulding VFW Post #587 and Knights of Columbus St. Joseph Council #2584. He was a 1949 graduate of Paulding High School and a former custodian of First Christian Church, Paulding.

He is also survived by three sons, Dave (Phyllis) Clark, of Ocala, Fla., Doug (Wendi) Clark, Bowling Green and Dennis (Tammy) Clark of Paulding; two daughters, Barb (Keith) Smith of Toledo and Kathy Clark of Cincinnati; four sisters, Rita Weber, Defiance, Mary Hoelderle, Payne, Jean (Frank) Cashman and Joan Clark, both of Fort Wayne; seven grandchildren, Adam (Brittany) Smith, Kiel Clark, Andy Smith, Megan Smith, Alex Smith, Sara Clark, and Rachel Clark; and three great-grandchildren, Ashton, Olivia and Emmalina Smith.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and John Clark.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10 a.m., Friday, Dec. 28 at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, Paulding. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by Paulding VFW Post #587.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 27, with a Rosary Service at 7:30 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.

MICHAEL D. WORKMAN 1960-2012

GROVER HILL – Michael D. Workman, age 52 died Thursday, Dec. 20 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Ft. Wayne.

He was born Dec. 10, 1960 in Daytona Beach, Fla., the son of Denver and Margaret A. (Price) Workman Sr. On Oct. 26, 2004 he married Cynthia J. Wayne, who survives in Grover Hill.

He is also survived by a son, Matthew Wayne of Grover Hill; a daughter, Cassandra Wagoner of Van Wert; two brothers, Paul (Gina) Workman of Van Wert and Denver L. Workman of Lima; and a granddaughter, Natilie Mech of Van Wert.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Patrick Workman and a sister, Annette L. Workman.

Funeral services will be conducted at a later date.

There will be no visitation.

JAMES EDWIN HUTCHINS 1941-2012

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – James Edwin Hutchins, age 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior on December 25, 2012 at The Hospice House, Charlottesville, Va.

Jim or “Hutch” was born in Antwerp on May 2, 1941, a son of the late Roland & Mary (Evans) Hutchins. Jim is survived by his wife, Ruth Hutchins of Monticello, Ga.; daughter, Lacey (Stuart) Young of Melbourne, Fla.; stepson, Russell (Susan) Johnson of Monticello; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, along with numerous other nieces and nephews and their families. He is the oldest of five children but he was like a brother to their uncle William E. “Bill” (Carol) Parrett. His sisters are Brenda (Mark) Yoh of Lancaster, Pa.; Rolana “Lana” Hutchins of Jacksonville, Fla.; Charla (Edward “Lanny”) Stabler of Payne and Lucinda (Jim) Speers of Charlottesville.

He graduated from Paulding High School in 1959, was a long distance truck driver and loved to fish.

Burial will be at Bethel Cemetery in Antwerp, with a memorial service celebrating his life to be held on May 2, 2013 at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.

GLENN DETMON 1925-2012

ANTWERP – Glenn L. Detmon, 87, of Antwerp, passed away Thursday, Dec. 20 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Hicksville.

He was born May 9, 1925 in Oak Harbor, the son of Roy and Lillian (Matzen) Detmon. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in WWII, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. On April 12, 1946 he married Gladys Wonderly, who survives. He was an electrician at Phelps Dodge, Fort Wayne. He was a member of Antwerp VFW Post #5087 and had attended the First Baptist Church.

Also surviving are a son, Leslie, and a daughter, Ramona (Dennis) Fish, both of Antwerp; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

His brother, Arnold, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp. Burial will be in Maumee Cemetery with military honors.

Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 and one hour prior to services on Saturday.

JOSEPH SNYDER 1946-2012

LEIPSIC – Joseph C. Snyder, 66, of Leipsic, died at 6:37 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17 at the Putnam County Ambulatory Care Center, Glandorf.

He was born June 6, 1946 in Lima, the son of Joseph J. and Kathryn (Kimmet) Snyder. On June 14, 1969, he married Rose Rhine, who survives. He was the postmaster in Oakwood and retired in 2011. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Leipsic, and its church choir. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Era and a member of the Leipsic VFW and Ottawa Knights of Columbus. He was very kind hearted and loved being with his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed the time he spent at Lake Erie and taking mini trips. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye and Cleveland Cavaliers fan and now a fan of the Miami Heat. He played Santa Claus in Oakwood for many years.

Also surviving are four children, Rachel (Jerry) Averesch of Ottawa, Alicia (Steve) Ferguson and Kris Snyder, both of Leipsic, and Jeff (Amanda) Snyder of Perrysburg; 10 grandchildren, Emma and Anna Averesch, Becca Snyder, Kayla, Paige and Breydon Ferguson, Ryan, Megan, Mackenzie and Madison Verhoff and one grandson on the way, Aiden Snyder; a sister, Mary (Clete) Gerschutz of New Bavaria; four brothers-in-law, Kenneth, Jerry, Dave and Paul (Camella) Rhine; and two sisters-in-law, Wanda Ickes and Frances Rhine.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a stepmother, Geneva Schroeder; a brother, Steven Snyder; and three brothers-in-law, Dick, Wally and Bob Rhine.

ELMA McCLURE 1912-2012

GROVER HILL – Elma Ruth McClure, age 100, died Monday, Dec. 17 at Country Inn Enhanced Living Center, Paulding.

She was born Dec. 8, 1912 in Paulding County, the daughter of Willie and Viletta (Taylor) Michael. On Jan. 14, 1934, she married Floyd McClure, who preceded her in death on Jan. 26, 1985. She was a member of Middle Creek United Methodist Church, Grover Hill. She and her husband were lifelong farmers in the Grover Hill area. She enjoyed raising chickens and crocheting afghans and doilies for family and friends.

She is survived by three sons, Darwin (Sharon) McClure and Roger (Rosalie) McClure, both of Grover Hill, and Gary (Vicki) McClure, Paulding; a sister, Evelyn Roth of Defiance; eight grandchildren, Robin (Phil) Farris, Terry (Lisa) McClure, Michael (Heidi) McClure, Marcia (Fred) Pond, Jodean (Rick) Jones, Jarrick (Anita) McClure, Jennifer (Brian) Aden, and Julie (Shawn) Cook; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 at Middle Creek United Methodist Church, Grover Hill, with Pastor William Sherry officiating. Burial will follow in Middle Creek Cemetery.

AUDREY MOORE 1977-2012

PAYNE – Audrey Lynne Moore, 35, of Payne, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:25 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center after bravely fighting a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was born Feb. 16, 1977 in Paulding, the daughter of Tony and Nancy (Thompson) Burkley. On Aug. 26, 2000, she married Chad Moore, who survives. She graduated from Paulding High School in 1995 and received a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in 1999. She obtained a master's degree in education from Indiana University at IPFW in 2004. She was the director of student life at IPFW and enjoyed providing the orientation program for students and parents and instilling leadership skills in her students to provide a more fulfilling college experience. Audrey also attended Woodburn Missionary Church.

Also surviving are son, Dane (age 10); daughter, Mallory (age 7); parents, Tony and Nancy Burkley of Payne; and a sister, Alison Burkley of Hilton Head Island, S.C.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Marion and Bonita Burkley, and maternal grandparents, Virgil and Helen Thompson.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at Woodburn Missionary Church, 5108 Bull Rapids Road, with the Rev. Joel DeSelm officiating. Burial will be in Lehman Cemetery, Payne. Dooley Funeral Home of Antwerp and Payne is in charge of arrangements.

LINDA GRANT 1950-2012

PAULDING – Linda Kay Grant, age 61, died Thursday, Dec. 13.

She was born Dec. 21, 1950 in Bay City, Mich., the daughter of Merlin Jay and Iva Romaine (Selle) McKeon. On Aug. 15, 1971, she married Gary Grant, who survives. She was President and CEO of Wedding Dreams and Grant’s Catering and was previously employed as a registered nurse for Paulding Hospital and Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. She was a member of Woodburn Missionary Church.

Linda’s zest for life and helping others will never be forgotten. As president and CEO of Wedding Dreams and Grant’s Catering, she touched the lives of thousands of brides and grooms. Through her devotion to family and friends, she brought happiness, security and a sense of calm to others. Linda will always be remembered for her leadership in the community, her warm, friendly personality and hard working, patient, goal-oriented lifestyle. She demonstrated courage and determination throughout her life, giving her children and grandchildren a role model beyond words. Her family looks forward to continuing the business for many years as a tribute to her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her father.

LOIS WOODARD 1924-2012

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Lois (Baumert) Woodard died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 14 at home in Grand Rapids, Mich.

She was born March 30, 1924 at Monroeville, Ind., the second of three children born to Oscar M. and Chloe (Grant) Baumert. Following graduation at Woodburn High School in 1941, she entered Skadrons School of Business in Fort Wayne. On-the-job training began at Wolf & Dessauer department store and that soon led to a full-time job. Following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, she joined the work force at GE in 1942. On April 6, 1947, she married Ivan Woodard at St. James Lutheran Church in Payne.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years and their three children, Ben (Janet) of Indianapolis, Philip (Carol) of Fairbanks, Alaska and Myra (William) Nueman of Grand Rapids; siblings, Marceile Teeple of Fort Wayne and Ray (Janet) of Port Charlotte, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18 at Zion Lutheran Church, Comstock Park, Mich., with Pastor Julie Schneider-Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park. Arsulowicz Brothers Remembrance Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

PAYNE – Grant Craig Totten, 72, formerly of Payne, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8 in Pueblo, Colo.

He was born Aug. 2, 1940 in Dayton, the son of H.B. and Rosemary (Underwood) Totten. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and graduated from the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque with a degree in electrical engineering, then went on to OSC in Rhode Island.

Surviving are his sister, Sonia Parsons of Lubbock, Texas; and two nieces, Michele Taylor of Ruidoso, N.M. and Holly Strain of Washington, D.C.

Graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17 at Wiltsie Cemetery, Payne, with military honors.

O’DELL WILLIAMS 1925-2012

PAYNE – O’Dell C. Williams, 87, of Payne, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 12 at The Gardens of Paulding.

He was born July 18, 1925 in Payne, the son of Vernon and Gladys (Zartman) Williams. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy in WWII. In December 1946, he married Helen Gibson, who preceded him in death in December 2004. He worked at Armstrong Implement in Payne and had been the mayor and fire chief of Payne. He was a member of St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #580 and Payne American Legion Post 297.

Surviving are his sons, Dennis (Deborah) of Payne and David of Indianapolis; a brother, Keith (Mary) of Payne; and a granddaughter, Carrie.

Also preceding him in death was a son, Jimmy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at St. Jacob’s United Church of Christ, Payne, with the Rev. James Langham officiating. Burial will be in Lehman Cemetery, with military honors.

PAULDING – Josephine R. Reyes, age 87, died Sunday, Dec. 9.

She was born March 9, 1925 in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Joaquin and Elisea (Torres) Ramirez. In 1940, she married Rudolph Reyes, who preceded her in death. She was employed as a housekeeper for Paulding County Hospital.

She is survived by two children, Rudolph Reyes and Theresa DeLeon, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Dan Ramirez, of Loveland, Colo.; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Angie Reyes, and a sister, Mary Lopez.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, Paulding, with the Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding. Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, is handling arrangements.

PAYNE – Rosemary Perrine, 86, of Payne, passed away Saturday, Dec. 8 at The Gardens of Paulding.

She was born June 2, 1926 in Payne, the daughter of John and Anna (Schall) Linder. On Oct. 25, 1947, she married Harold Perrine, who survives. She was a homemaker and a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church.

Also surviving are her children, Susan (Wayne) Smith of Angola, Ind., Tim (Michele) of Powell, Paula (Rick) Wiseman of McCartyville and Kevin (Deb) of Ossian, Ind.; a twin sister, Sr. Jean Linder, OSF, of Tiffin, and sisters Genevieve Wilson and Sr. Helen Linder, both of Tiffin, and Theresa Baumle of Payne; brothers, Morris Linder of Fort Wayne and Jim Linder of Payne; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Lynn; and siblings, Catherine Gonya, Marie Linder, Josephine Huguenard and Rita Linder.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Payne. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

ANTWERP – Barbara Ann Woodcox, 66, of Antwerp, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, at Defiance Inpatient Hospice Center.

She was born May 26, 1946 in Van Wert, a daughter of Harry and Helen (Grostephan) Fry. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Antwerp, where she was the church secretary for many years.

Surviving are her children, Donald II and David Foltz, both of Paulding, and Bryan Foltz of Defiance; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dennis.

BEAVERCREEK – Norma Grace Gutmann, age 93, of Beavercreek, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012 at her residence.

Norma had been a resident of Beavercreek for the past 55 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Forest P. Gutmann on Dec. 11, 2011.

PAULDING – Margaret Alice Tope, age 82, died Tuesday, Dec. 4 at The Gardens of Paulding.

She was born June 16, 1930 in Kendallville, Ind., the daughter of William F. and Lucille (Smith) Menzel. On Dec. 10, 1950, she married Lowell Edward Tope, who preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 2002. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding, and the owner/operator of the former Tope’s Hardware, Paulding, and Paulding Movie Theater. She was also employed as receptionist for Dr. Lonnie Tope and Dr. Larry Tope.

She is survived by a son, Dr. Larry (Debra) Tope, Paulding; her mother, Lucille Menzel, Butler, Ind.; a daughter-in-law, Judy Tope, Paulding; a sister, DonnaBelle Gaff, Butler, Ind.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She also was preceded in death by her father; a son, Dr. Lonnie Tope; and a brother, William Menzel.

OAKWOOD – Bernard L. English Sr., 91, of Oakwood, died 12:40 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice.

He was born Dec. 1, 1921 in Ashtabula County, the son of Roy and Minnie Alva (Hoover) English. On April 28, 1943, he married Rosa Fern Etter, who preceded him in death March 10, 2010.

Bernard was retired from Zeller Corp. in Defiance and was a farmer. He was a WWII veteran of the Army Infantry and was a Disabled American Veteran. He was a graduate of Officers Training School in Fort Benning, Ga.

He is survived by his children, Sheryl English of Oakwood, Bernard English Jr. of Oakwood, and Pamela (Lewis) Renollet of Pemberville; seven grandchildren, Adam English, Desirae Hagerman, and Jillian, Hannah, Michelle, Madison and Cora Renollet; and seven great-grandchildren, Tatem, Hailey and Olivia Stallard, Isaac and Raymond Hagerman, and Cole and Claire English.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Cloyd, Floyd, Raymond “Colonel”, Donald and Gerald English; and a sister, Evelyn Butler.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continental, with the Rev. Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Oakwood, with military rites by the Oakwood American Legion and Paulding VFW.

PAYNE – Ernest D. Harshman, age 75, died Saturday, Dec. 1 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.

He was born March 3, 1937 in Payne, the son of David W. and Bertha (Miller) Harshman. He retired in 2002 from Payne Equity Exchange Company and was previously employed by Homier’s Implements. He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Payne; Eagles #2405, Paulding, and Moose of Van Wert.

He is survived by his stepdaughter, Fran (Jim) Litzenberg, granddaughter, Rachelle Litzenberg, and great-grandson, all of Indialantic, Fla.; a sister, Joyce Barrand, Payne; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Mary M. Pickford.; two brothers, Paul E. and Harold Harshman; a sister, Kathryn Bruns; and a great-grandson, David Lee Litzenberg-Loftin.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at St. Paul United Methodist, Payne . Burial will follow in Lehman Cemetery, Payne.

E. “DENE” KUHLMAN 1925-2012

FINDLAY – Ella Dene Kuhlman, 87, of Findlay, died Sunday, Dec. 2 at Heritage Manor in Findlay.

She was born Oct. 23, 1925 in Sherwood, the daughter of Stanley and Harriett Oskey. Her mother died when Dene was 11 years old. Her father died when she was 19 years old. She subsequently began working at an early age as a bookkeeper for Everett Lumber in Findlay. It was in Findlay that she met her future husband, Sam Kuhlman, whom she married July 15, 1950. She was the office manager for the Hancock Country Mental Health Clinic. Very detail-oriented, she retained her bookkeeping skills well into her late 80s. Dene was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Parish, and enjoyed playing golf and shopping.

Surviving are four children, Jack (Judy), Jill, Joe (Karen) and Jerry Kuhlman; six grandchildren, Mike, Jennifer, Ashley, Andrew, Jacob and Makayla; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Howard (Bev) Oskey of Paulding.

She also was preceded in death by her husband in March 2012, and a brother, Herman Oskey.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at Hufford Family Funeral Home in Findlay with Fr. Chris Bazar officiating. Burial will be held at St. Michael Cemetery at a later date

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. prior to services Friday.

JANICE McMILLAN 1948-2012

VAN WERT – Janice A. McMillan of Van Wert died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

She was born June 22, 1948 in Paulding, the daughter of John and Ruby Buchman, who both preceded her in death. She was a 1966 graduate of Paulding High School and retired from Eaton Corporation following 35 years of service. She was a past president of Habitat for Humanity in Van Wert and a court appointed special advocate for juvenile court. She was an animal lover and enjoyed helping people.

Surviving are her spouse, Kent McMillan; a daughter, Erin McMillan; two stepdaughters, Melissa (Tim) Friemoth and Rhonda (Hubert) Perry of Van Wert; three brothers, James (Pat) Buchman and Raymond (Linda) Buchman, both of Paulding, and Martin (Mary Ann) Buchman of Fort Wayne; two sisters, Mary Laukhuf and Kathryn (Jim) Clark, both of Paulding and three grandchildren, Wessley Perry and Shae and Skyler Friemoth.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Richard and David Buchman, and a sister, Louise Buchman.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Stoller officiating.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of services at 1 p.m.
