The Spice Rack

By Dorotha Schaefer

The use of batteries to power almost everything anymore is a known fact. Naming the many objects would take a lot of time, starting with toys. The little pink rabbit on TV keeps running on batteries forever. The use of batteries for medical purposes is the one I am interested in at the present time as the year advances to 2011. Seven and a half years ago, a device was inserted in my left shoulder, a battery in itself. It was called a pacemaker and took charge of my heart when it slowed down too much.

The persons who were in charge of the battery took a great interest in its behavior and when it began to get lazy, it was removed and a new one put in. This happened last week just in time for Christmas. I was told it would be a very simple short process and that was almost true. So now I have a new battery and Lord willin’ it will be as dependable as the one that powers the pink bunny of TV fame.
