The Spice Rack

By Dorotha Schaefer

Having raised kids, corn, wheat, soybeans and cats for many years on Benton Township’s fertile soil, it comes as sort of a shock to see wind mills taking over the scene. These contraptions are HUGE; we have to believe after seeing the photos for many months. The evidence grows after a brief trip down Ohio 49 south of Payne and the side roads off of it. The state line road is a good one to take.

Everything connected to the wind turbines (another name for the monsters) is foreign to our eyes. Rumor has it that 39 of the wind mills will be built on the fertile acres of Benton Township. After the past few days of disaster with atomic energy, the wind turbines look even better to Benton Township dwellers and/or owners.

The looking is free in the area, but we’re asked to stay off the special roads that are being constructed by the builders. That must mean all those turnarounds at the intersections, too.
