The Spice Rack

By Dorotha Schaefer

This is a Windy Spring Day story that is true. It happened to a couple in the Payne area whose fictitious names are Lee and Grace. Lee had taken his ladder, stood it to the house roof, climbed up on it and was, as far as Grace could tell, on the roof somewhere. He was nailing shingles to prevent them from being blown away in the nasty spring winds.

Sometime later, Grace heard Lee calling her name in what was definitely an excited voice – “Grace, Grace!!” Knowing that he had either fallen from the roof or had dropped the ladder and was stranded up there in the wind, Grace ran to his rescue. She immediately found the ladder but no sign of her husband. She dashed around the house looking for him, but there was no sign of him, either on the ground or the roof.
