By Dorotha Schaefer This item headed a Rack of 1990 and caught my attention due to the bounty it represented all those years ago. “Tuesday was a special day at my house, a day of bounteous plenty in the way of food. Early in the morning, Ruby Smith presented me with fresh-picked sweet corn from her garden. I no longer plant a vegetable garden as other interests take my time. “Later in the day, a couple I interviewed, Dale and Dorothy Hobeck, gifted me with three large yellow squash. Later, friends from Henry County came by with two large sacks of lettuce, endive, carrots, tomatoes, beets, turnips, sweet peppers green peppers and several cucumbers. Such largesse was overwhelming both to me and our refrigerator.” • • •
