By Nancy Whitaker NO LETTER TODAY “I’m gonna sit right down and write myself a letter and make believe it came from you,” are the lyrics from a song recorded years ago by various artists. The title alone lets you know just how important letters used to be. Receiving cards and letters from lovers, soldiers, family members and friends used to be one of the few ways to communicate. Plus, it was so exciting to tear open that letter and read what it said. I know myself that when growing up and living in the rural area, I was always looking forward to seeing the mail car pull up to our mailbox. Of course, I did not receive a lot of mail personally, but it was always fun when I did get a card or letter. But, then writing and sending letters was one of our best ways to communicate.
