By NANCY WHITAKER

Progress Staff Writer

Part 3 of a series

On Sunday, Jan. 15 the historical Hotel Barnes went down in flames. The fire has been determined to be the work of an arsonist.

The hotel, built in 1893, had a rich historical past that spanned 119 years. It was built by Gilbert Barnes, who was a pillar of the community.
