United Way honors veterans

An event was held May 19 at the Chief Super Market parking lot by United Way of Paulding County to pay tribute to all service men and women on Armed Forces Day.

Pam Miller, board member, presented a Certificate of Appreciation to each veteran and thanked them for their many years of service.

Refreshments were served by Linda Bostelman and Anna Lee Adams. Many stopped by to thank and shake hands with the following veterans: Don E. Adams, Richard Bowers, Jim Bowers, Larry Brinneman, Dave Fisher, Ira Green, Larry Hoover, Ephraim Kipfer, Jim Long, Jim Pendergrast, John W. Saco, Larry Smith, Harold Williams, and Jamie Wood.

UWPC secretary Kim Sutton talked with Ira Green about his time stationed in England when he served in the Air Force. Green brought a picture to share with the name of every person written on the back. He told the group that he is the last living person in that group picture. Green flew in B-24s with four officers and four crew members which included himself.
