Troopers investigating injury crash near Antwerp

ANTWERP – The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Van Wert Post is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred at 12:45 a.m. Monday morning, June 18 on U.S. 24 at the intersection of County Road 21, Carryall Township, in Paulding County. The crash was approximately one mile west of the village of Antwerp.

A 2004 Ford Focus was attempting to cross U.S. 24 on County Road 21. A 2012 Volvo semi, driven by Richard Smith Jr., of St. Louis, was on U.S. 24. The driver of the Ford Focus failed to yield to the semi and was struck in the passenger side.

The driver of the Ford Focus is still undetermined at this time. The occupants were Brandon E. Sims, age 24, Tiffany M. Sims, age 18, and Amanda R. Kohli, age 18, all of Toledo.

Samaritan LifeFlight and Antwerp EMS transported the occupants of the car to Parkview Regional Hospital. Smith was transported by Antwerp EMS to Hicksville Community Memorial Hospital.

The conditions of the victims transported to Parkview Regional Hospital are currently listed as stable.

Troopers were assisted on scene by the Antwerp Fire Department and EMS, Samaritan LifeFlight, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office, Gideon’s Wrecker, and Hoagy’s Wrecker.

The crash is still under investigation. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash and seat belt use is unknown.
