Fetter to be guest at reading program

OAKWOOD – Jack Fetter will be the guest for the summer reading program “Dream Big Read!” from 11 a.m.-noon Wednesday, June 27 at the Cooper Community Branch Library in Oakwood.


Fetter will be sharing with children around the campfire all about nocturnal animals. The nighttime world will come alive with his presentation. There will be some hands-on things to touch and feel. Before it is time to leave the campfire, everyone will have s’mores and a story. For more information, please contact the branch at 419-594-3337. Ice cream social on June 30

GROVER HILL – The Grover Hill Fire and EMS departments will be holding an ice cream social from 4-8 p.m. Saturday, June 30 at the Grover Hill VFW. All proceeds will go toward equipment improvements for the departments. Menu items will include sandwiches, beef and noodles, plenty of homemade desserts and the “World Famous” Grover Hill Lions Club homemade ice cream.


Payne plans all star tournaments

PAYNE – The Payne Ball Association will be sponsoring four all star tournaments in July.

The association will host an 8 and under boys baseball coach pitch tourney on July 6-8, followed by a boys baseball 10 and under tournament from July 9-12.

A girls 8 and under coach pitch tourney will be held July 13-15 followed by a 12 and under boys baseball tourney from July 16-19.

Catholic Charities adoption coordinator to speak at Defiance meeting

DEFIANCE – Joy Shakur, coordinator for Catholic Charities’ adoption program, will speak at the next meeting of the Mother Teresa Respect Life group in Defiance. The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. June 26 in the Holy Cross Catholic School Gym, 1745 S. Clinton St.

Catholic Charities’ adoption program works with couples of all faiths to facilitate domestic and international adoptions. Catholic Charities is a licensed agency for domestic adoptions for infants 6 months of age or younger. The organization encourages open domestic adoptions in which a relationship can be established between birth parents and adoptive parents. The organization also facilitates international adoptions through conducting home studies and serving as a liaison with foreign adoption agencies.

Catholic Charities also provides pregnancy support to women in need.

During her presentation, Shakur will speak about Catholic Charities’ adoption services and share stories of the program. For more information about the adoption program, contact Shakur at 419-244-6711, ext. 448.

Prior to the meeting, a rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. and a Mass celebrated at 6:30 p.m. in the Holy Cross Catholic School Chapel.
