Why not buy local

this Christmas?

Friday marks the official start of the Christmas shopping season, although many retailers have been clamoring for our attention for months. With Dec. 25 less than five weeks away, the pressure is on to take care of all the preparations – decorations, parties, cards and letters, special events, and, of course, gift buying. What to buy? What to spend?

While Friday has come to be known as “Black Friday,” and the following Monday is called “Cyber Monday” because of the crush of online shopping, a new day is making its presence known. It’s called “Small Business Saturday” and urges everyone to patronize the independently owned small businesses in their communities on Nov. 24.
