Northwest Ohio history book author to appear in Van Wert
Latest

VAN WERT – The Van Wert County Historical Society will be hosting Toledo author Jim Mollenkopf on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Gift Shoppe of the Seven Oaks, located at 133 E. 3rd St.

The author will be available from 2-4:30 p.m.

Mollenkopf is a former social worker then newspaper reporter who has written and self-published seven books since 1998. His titles include a trio of books on the Great Black Swamp that profile the massive marsh that once covered much of northwestern Ohio and the sorrows and struggles of those who settled it. They also tell of a time when guns roared in this part of the state during both the Ohio Indian Wars and the War of 1812.

Mollenkopf has also written Civil War Stories of Northwestern Ohio Heroes, which tells stories of northwestern Ohio Civil War soldiers ranging from privates to generals and from drummer boys to spies. This volume also tells of the Confederate prisoner of war camp on Johnson Island in Lake Erie where rebel officers waited out the war and Union prisoners were sometimes executed.
