Bald eagles at Black Swamp Nature Center
Tuesday, December 11, 2012 8:30 PM

Mike Strable and his daughter, Catie, submitted several photos to the Progress with this message:

“Spotted this pair of bald eagles at Black Swamp Nature Center, Paulding, on Dec. 5, 2012. Maybe the pair of eagles will build a nest nearby. Nearest nest that I know of is near Power Dam in Defiance County.”

An Ohio Department of Natural Resources map of nesting bald eagles in Ohio for 2011 shows sites in surrounding counties, including Defiance, Henry, Williams and Putnam.

Strable added, “My 10-year-old daughter, Catie Strable, took Ohio Birds in 4-H this year. She won county and got 'outstanding of day' at state fair. I started taking photos of the birds that we see for her project. This project turned out to be a great activity for us to enjoy.

“We have seen 12 bald eagles at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge near Oak Harbor, Ohio this year. The last time I saw a bald eagle in Paulding County was five years ago, so we were thrilled to see this pair of bald eagles. I am so glad that other people are enjoying the photos."

The Progress posted the photos on our Facebook page on Monday; by Tuesday afternoon, the eagles received more than 125 “likes” and were shared more than 50 times.
