ROBERT GORMAN 1918-2013

PAULDING – Robert E. Gorman, age 94, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013 at his residence.

He was born Oct. 22, 1918 in Jackson Township, White County, Ind., the son of Thomas E. and Wanda (Caughell) Gorman. On April 22, 1939, he married Marjorie Ann Albery, who survives, He was a WWII US Army veteran, earning two Bronze Stars. He was owner/operator of R.E. Gorman Insurance Agency, retiring in 1987; a member of the Buckeye Union Insurance Company for 67 years; a life member and former chaplain of VFW Post #587, conducting over 1,000 funerals; former member of Payne American Legion; and a former Mason.

He was a member of the Ohio Independent Insurance Agents Association; Paulding County Independent Insurance Agents; RNC precinct committeeman; and the original builder and organizer for the Auglaize Country Club. He was a former member of the Lions Club and Paulding Chamber of Commerce. He was very active in the Paulding United Methodist Church, where he held many offices. Robert and his wife, Marjorie, were the 2008 grand marshals of the John Paulding Days Parade.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Gorman, Paulding; a daughter, Lou Ann (Joe) Martin, Eugene, Ore.; two sons, Greg R. Gorman and Jeff Gorman, both of Paulding; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Charles and Fred Gorman; and two sisters, Doris Gorman and Thelma Keller.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at Paulding United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ben Lowell officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Creek Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post #587. Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, is handling arrangements.

Visitation will be from noon until time of services on Friday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Paulding United Methodist Church.

RAYMOND STULTS JR. 1936-2013

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Former Paulding and Kalida resident Raymond H. Stults Jr., age 77, died Monday, Oct. 21 at the John F. Keever Solace Center, Asheville.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1936 in Paulding County, the son of Raymond and Martha W. (Barnes) Stults. On April 7, 1957, he married Betty Ann Forney, who survives. He was previously a truck driver for Beal Trucking.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Asheville; two sons, Jon “Eric” Stults of Asheville, and Michael (April) Stults, Springhill, Fla.; two daughters, Debra (Jerry) Goings of Cloverdale and Lisa Ann Stults, Asheville; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, John C. Stults.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. Burial will follow at Cooper Cemetery, Paulding County.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to hospice.

JON TILLERY 1978-2013

PAULDING – Jon Tucker Tillery, age 34, died Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Paulding County Hospital.

He was born Nov. 16, 1978 in Jacksonville, Ill., the son of David and Robin (Rodgers) Tillery. On March 18, 2007, he married Wendy J. Bechtel, who survives. He was previously employed by Papa John’s Pizza.

He is survived by his parents; wife; three children, Michael Lee Richcreek, Donald Joseph Richcreek and Destini Nicole Ransom Tillery; a sister, Tara Mauren (Brandon) Hogaboom; and a grandson, Mikel Angelo Richcreek.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. Burial will be at a later date.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 and one hour prior to services on Friday at the funeral home.

Donations may be made in memory of Jon to his family or a charity of the donor’s choice.

BOB TEMPEL 1928-2013

PAYNE – Robert P. Tempel, 85, of Payne, passed away at home Saturday, Oct. 19.

Bob was born July 12, 1928 in Paulding, a son of the late Esther (Beamer) and Rupert Tempel. On Sept. 2, 1950, he married Marlene Harting. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was a machinist at Essex Wire for 21 years and Uniroyal Goodrich for 22 years. He also enjoyed fishing. He was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Parish and Payne American Legion Post 297.

Bob will be fondly remembered by his wife, Marlene; children, Tom (Kim Waldschmidt) of Fort Wayne, Judy (Dwight) Redmon of Napoleon, Bobbi (Todd) Champany and Jeff (Sheila), both of Payne, Dan (Deb) of New Haven and Amy (Brad) Yenser of Payne; a sister, Jean Zartman of Payne; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Payne, at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23. Bob will be laid to rest at Lehman Cemetery, with military honors.

Visitation is 3-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22 with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home, 5761 SR 500, Payne, where viewing is also 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesday.

MICKEY MOWERY 1943-2013

OAKWOOD – Mickey G. Mowery, 70, of Oakwood, died at 11:15 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14 at his residence.

He was born on Feb. 9, 1943 in Bluffton to the late Robert and Doris (Bauer) Mowery. On April 4, 1964, he married Sandra L. Schilt, who survives in Oakwood. Mickey was a truck driver for Hornish Brothers Trucking of Archbold and for UPS.

Survivors also include a son, Robert (Juanita) Mowery of Continental; a daughter, Stephanie A. Cogswell of Oakwood; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, William “Bill” M. (Fran) Mowery of Oakwood.

There will be no funeral or visitation. Burial will be held at a later date in Sherman Cemetery, Oakwood. Arrangements are being handled by Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood.

BENJAMIN BLANKENSHIP 1928-2013

CONVOY – Former Paulding resident Benjamin M. Blankenship, age 85, died Tuesday, Oct. 15 at Van Wert County Hospital.

He was born April 8, 1928 in Macon County, Tenn., the son of Harmon and Idell (Scott) Blankenship. On July 29, 1950, he married Martha Ann Gregory, who preceded him in death on Jan. 30, 2000. He retired from Lafarge Corporation, Paulding.

Benjamin is survived by three daughters, Wilma (Ted) Saylor of Convoy, Wanda McCoy of Continental and Diana Serrao of Titusville, Pa.; two sisters, Irene Brooks of Lafayette, Tenn. and Velma “Sis” Burns of Portland, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sons, Donald and Ben “Jeff” Blankenship; a daughter, Brenda Lee Blankenship; four grandchildren, Jason Paul and Joshua Philip Eldridge, Trent Allen Saylor and Jessica Blankenship; two brothers, Leonard and Delbert Blankenship; and two sisters, Lois Lawson and Katherine Jenkins.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with the Rev. Ben Lowell officiating. Burial will follow in Hedges Cemetery, Paulding County.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. until time of services on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

DONNA HAHN 1909-2013

ANTWERP – Donna Hahn, 103, of Antwerp, died  Sunday, Oct. 13 at Vancrest of Antwerp.

Her service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 17,  with visitation one hour prior at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church of Antwerp.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16 at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp.

 

JOAN BURTCH 1930-2013

PAULDING – M. Joan Burtch, age 83, died Wednesday, Oct. 9 at CHP Hospice, Defiance.

She was born April 11, 1930 in St. Marys, the daughter of Edward and Iris (Henschen) Kuns. On Aug. 28, 1949, she married Karl Burtch, who survives. She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was church organist for over 60 years. She was a piano/organ teacher, teaching many of Paulding’s musicians from the 1950s through the 1980s. She attended nursing school at age 52 and was employed by the Paulding County Hospital for 12 years as an LPN. Paulding Business and Professional Women’s Association named Joan Woman of the Year in 1984.

She is survived by her husband, Karl Burtch, Paulding; four sons, David Burtch of Woodland Hills, Calif., Mike (Mary) Burtch of Houston, Doug (Nancy) Burtch of Paulding and Bill Burtch of Memphis, Tenn.; two daughters, Karla (Mike Griggs) Burtch of Cincinnati and Joanie (Steve) Goyings, Paulding; a brother, Bill (Nancy) Kuns, Memphis; two sisters, Janice Fernow of Clearwater, Fla. and Sally Harper, LaJunta, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding, with the Rev. Karen Stetins officiating. Burial will follow in Wiltsie Cemetery, Payne.

Visitation will be 2:30-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

ANTWERP – Eva Maxine (Morris) Seslar, age 87, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8 at Hickory Creek Nursing Home, Hicksville.

 

CLARE LANZ 1922-2013

PAULDING – Clare M. Lanz, age 91, died Thursday, Oct. 3 at the Country Inn Enhanced Living Center, Paulding.

She was born April 29, 1922, in Paulding County, the daughter of Alfred and Bertha (Hafeli) Buehler. On Aug. 27, 1944, she married Elmer Lanz, who preceded her in death on April 13, 2002.

She is survived by a son, Kerry (Kathy) Lanz, Cincinnati; four daughters, Susan (Willy) Tops, Nieuwerkerken, Belgium, and Christy Romoser, Jennifer (Mark) Higinbotham and Julie (Dwight) Weber, all of Seattle; 11 grandchildren, Andrea Lanz, Tracey (Karl) Lanz Hoalst, Austin Lanz, Jeremiah (Sylvie) Tops, Benjamin (Karen) Tops, Caitlyn Romoser, Taylor Romoser, Alex Higinbotham, Dustin (Megan) Weber, Stephanie (Trace) Rorie, and Josiah Weber; and six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Tristan, Quinten, Amori, Mateo and Addison.

Graveside services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7 at Latty Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery, Latty, with the Rev. Dustin Weber officiating.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding.

There will also be memorial services held in memory of Clare at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Paulding Church of the Nazarene, Paulding, with the Rev. Dwight Weber officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial services.

BEVERLY GUMM 1937-2013

WOODBURN – Beverly A. Gumm, age 75, of Woodburn, died at 3:52 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2 at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

She was born Nov. 23, 1937 in Van Wert County, the daughter of Ernest H. and Alice Donne (Presgrave) Klinker. She married James H. Gumm on May 5, 1990 in Payne. She graduated in 1955 from Woodburn High School and retired in 1986 from International Harvester Company with 31 years of service in scheduling and expediting. Beverly attended Edgerton Wesleyan Church in Edgerton, Ind. She was a member of the VFW #2457 Ladies Auxiliary in New Haven, the Moose Lodge #861 in Columbia City, and the American Legion #330 Auxiliary in New Haven.

Surviving are her husband, of Woodburn; four daughters, Kelly A. Boroff of Fort Wayne, Kathy L. Hessler of Fort Wayne, Kimberly K. (David) Braaten of New Haven and LeAnn M. (Steven) Johnson of Fort Wayne; four brothers, James L. Klinker of Van Wert, Terry L. (Linda) Klinker of Apollo Beach, Fla., the Rev. William F. (Linda) Klinker of Newark, and Lynn A. (Jean) Klinker of Woodburn; a sister, Charlotte B. McCowan, Fort Wayne; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son, Terry Joe Boroff, who died at only eight days old in 1957; and an infant brother, Garth Ernest Klinker; who died at 8 months old.

Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 7 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Ind. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery in Convoy.

Visitation is from noon-3 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6.

Preferred memorials are to American Heart Association.
