MORRIS BRUNE 1933-2014

PAULDING – Morris E. Brune, age 80, went to his eternal home at 9:35 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at Brookview Health Care, Defiance, with his beloved son Scott by his side.

He was born Nov. 13, 1933 in Paulding, the son of Oltie and Cora (Snyder) Brune. On May 21, 1959, he married Marcia K. Ross, who survives. He was employed for 42 years by Lonelm Printing. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War, and attended Paulding First Presbyterian Church. He loved working with stained glass and wood, carving birds, building clocks and gun cabinets. He collected coins and arrowheads.

He is survived by his wife, Marcia Brune, Paulding; a son, Scott (Laura Buchman) Brune, Fort Wayne; a brother, Allen (Mary) Brune, Decatur, Ind.; two granddaughters, Chelsea and Andrea Brune, Bloomington, Ind.; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Brune and Linda (fiancé, Bill Baxter) Reinhart, all of Paulding, and Martha Brune, Ashland; and brother-in-law, Lanny Ross, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Richard, Paul, Henry “Hank” and Ervin Brune.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 at the First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Meriwether officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding, with military graveside rites accorded by VFW Post #587.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church Sound System, Alzheimer’s Association or Wounded Warriors Project.

LATTY – Clara M. Youtsey, age 76, of Latty, died at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

 

 

RICK BIDLACK 1953-2014

DEFIANCE – Rick E. Bidlack, 60, of Defiance, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born on May 9, 1953 to Olan and Oleta (Enders) Bidlack in Defiance. Rick was a graduate of Oakwood High School class of 1971. He was self-employed and enjoyed motorcycles, hunting and firearms. Rick was a member of Defiance #372 F.O.E.

Rick is survived by siblings, David (Sharon) Bidlack of Cecil, Cindy L. (Charles “Bud”) Hubert of Oakwood, Stephanie Cox of Deltona, Fla., Ronald (Yvonne) Bidlack of Van Wert, Pam (Jerry) Bronner of Deltona, Fla., Terry (Karen) Bidlack of Oakwood, and Kathy (Bill) Rippetoe of Continental; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Randy and Michael Bidlack in infancy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with the Rev. George Alley officiating. Burial will follow in Prairie Chapel Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3 at the funeral home.

The family suggest memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, American Diabetes Association, and the Wounded Warriors Project.

JUDITH ANDREWS 1950-2014

OAKWOOD – Judith “Judy” Ann Andrews, 63, of Oakwood, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 28 at the CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center.

She was born on Sept. 16, 1950 to William and Bonnie Smith in Edon. Judy was a 1969 graduate of Tinora High School. She was previously employed at Kettering Country Club, Johns Manville, Alex Products, and the Auglaize Country Club. Judy enjoyed fishing, painting and camping.

She is survived by her daughters, Bonnie Sue (Larry) Baldwin of Defiance and Jodie Andrews of Oakwood; siblings, William “Bill” (Patricia Jean) Smith of Sherwood and Janet (Roel) Valle of Defiance; and grandchildren, Shelby, Jessica, Samantha and Steven.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with the Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to CHP Defiance Area In-Patient Hospice Center and/or to St. John Lutheran Church.

LUCAS CARNAHAN 1989-2014

DEFIANCE – Lucas James Carnahan, age 25, died as a result from injuries sustained on Sunday, Jan. 26, near Defiance.

He was born Jan. 6, 1989 in Paulding, the son of Jerry and Pauline (Manz) Carnahan. He was engaged to be married this summer to Constance Gray, who also died as the result of the accident. He was employed as a mechanic by Kennfeld Group, Archbold, and attended Junction Apostolic Christian Church and Rose Hill Church of God. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, and any outdoor activity.

He is survived by his parents, Jerry and Pauline Carnahan of Derby, Kan.; his paternal grandmother, Bernice “Buzz” Carnahan, Paulding; two brothers, Jason (Danielle) Carnahan, Paulding, and Nathan (Melissa) Carnahan, Andover, Kan.; two sisters, Liza (Chris) Scanland, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Katie (fiancé Joshua Womack) Carnahan, Derby, Kan.; nieces, Lakin, Addison, Madeline, Taylor, Destiny, Kelsey, Kaylen and Abbie; and nephews, Owen, Coby, Caleb and Gavin.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Pete Carnahan; and maternal grandparents, Adam and Katie (Steffen) Manz.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2 at the Junction Apostolic Christian Church with church clergymen officiating. Burial will follow in the Junction Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding and one hour prior to services on Sunday at the church.

ROLLIN COOPER 1934-2014

PAULDING – Rollin R. Cooper, age 79, died Monday, Jan. 27 at Parkview North Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

He was born June 16, 1934 in Paulding, the son of Troy and Mary (Brown) Cooper. On Aug. 7, 1955, he married Sharon L. Grimes, who survives. Rollin served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-56. He was previously employed by Paulding Exempted Village Schools as a boiler operator and bus driver. He was employed for 31 years at BF Goodrich, retiring in 1994. Rollin was an avid hunter and fisherman, traveling to Canada for many years with family and friends. Rollin and Sharon traveled to Alaska in 1998 for three months visiting many states. He also enjoyed photography, woodworking, welding and gardening and was famous for his wonderful smoked meats. He was a member of the First Christian Church, where he was a trustee and property committee member.

Rollin is survived by his wife, Sharon Cooper, Paulding; two sons, Michael Cooper, Paulding, and David (Teresa) Cooper, Grabill, Ind.; a daughter, Susan (Dennis) Knapp, Paulding; two sisters, Shirley Cooper Green, Convoy, and Jeannie (Charles) Thomas Waterbury, Fishers, Ind.; grandchildren, Sarah Knapp and Brian (Julie) Knapp, both of Paulding, Andrew (Lila) Cooper of Montezuma and Libby (Ross) Knueven, Ottoville; and great-grandchildren, Lily and Kynzi Knapp, Kolton Knueven, and baby Cooper due in February; also wonderful pets, Izzy, Gracie and Queenie.

Rollin was preceded in death by his parents; son, John Cooper; brother, Troy “Vern” Cooper; and wonderful companion dog, Greta.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1 at First Christian Church with the Rev. Paul Biery officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Paulding, with military graveside rites accorded by VFW Post #587.

Visitation will be from 2:30-8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

JEAN ANKNEY 1939-2014

DEFIANCE – Iona “Jean” Ankney, 74, of Defiance, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 9 at Parkview Regional Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She was born on June 10, 1939 to Harry and Bertha (Lintermoot) Wolford in Paulding. On Dec. 5, 1958, she married Garrison Ankney and he passed away in 2008. She graduated in 1957 from Paulding High School where she was a lively trouble maker. Jean was a cashier for Chief Super Market 18 years. After retirement from Chief she went on to work at Rite Aid. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, sightseeing, gambling and going on trips.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Thomas) Sinn of Latty; grandchildren, Stefanie (Matthew) Sinn-Hollar of Ankara, Turkey, and Steven (Alicia) Sinn of Latty; great-grandchildren, Savannah and Stella Sinn; sister-in-law, Violet Grant of Texas; brother-in-law, Charles “Jim” (Marilyn) Ankney, Defiance; and many nieces and nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Ilo; and brother, Melvin.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance, with the funeral service being held at 1 p.m. Thursday with Deacon Jeff Mayer officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding.

Memorials are suggested to the Kidney Foundation or to the Defiance Senior Center.

SUSAN PROXMIRE 1944-2014

PAULDING – Susan Jo (Lotz) Proxmire, age 69, died Sunday, Jan. 26 at Parkview North Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

She was born Nov. 21, 1944 in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Joseph F. and Allene S. (Schoppman) Lotz.  She retired as an LPN in 2004 from The Gardens of Paulding (the former Hawthorn Court Nursing Home).

Susan is survived by two daughters, Tiffany (Keith) Theobald, Paulding, and Morgan (Bradley) Gantt, Charleston, S.C.; three grandsons, Isaiah, Tycen and Harper; and two granddaughters, Raeanne and Abigail.

Her parents, Joseph and Allene (Schoppman) Lotz, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with the Rev. Ben Lowell officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Thursday.

LUCILLE DENHERDER 1919-2014

PAULDING – Lucille Elizabeth DenHerder, age 94, died Saturday, Jan. 25 at her residence.

She was born Nov. 13, 1919 in Chicago, the daughter of William P. and Isabelle F. (Brown) Matson. In San Francisco, on Aug. 25, 1945, she married John S. DenHerder, who preceded her in death on March 10, 1985. She was a 1938 graduate of Sierra Catholic High School, Chicago, and graduated from Saint Xavier College School of Nursing, Chicago. She served during WWII as Lt. Junior Grade in the US Navy Nurse Corps at Great Lakes, Ill., USN Hospital in Chicago and USN Hospital in Dublin, Ga. She was a member of the staff of Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, retiring in 2005 after 40 years as a funeral director.

She was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paulding; National Funeral Directors Association; and Ohio Funeral Directors Association. During her childhood days in Chicago, from 1924-29, she modeled for Lincoln Logs, Ovaltine and Sears Roebuck.

Lucille is survived by a son, John W. (Janis) DenHerder, Paulding; a daughter, Elizabeth A. (Charles) Hankey, Indianapolis; four grandchildren, William J. (Leah) DenHerder of Middletown, Joseph E. DenHerder of Paulding, Anne E. (Randy M.) Forman, Chicago, and Emily C. Hankey, New York, N.Y.; and three great-grandchildren, Madeline J. Forman and twins, Olivia and Elizabeth DenHerder.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Lt. William F. Matson, a US Army WWII Japanese POW.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 31 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with the Rev. Ben Lowell officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Paulding.

Visitation will be from 2:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to services on Friday.

PAYNE – Richard Zierten, 59, of Payne, passed away Friday, Jan. 24, 2014.

 

 

KENNETH LADD 1942-2014

HICKSVILLE – Kenneth Ladd, 71, of Hicksville, passed away Thursday, Jan. 23, at home.

Kenny was born April 1, 1942, in Edgerton, Ind., a son of the late Madeline (Reeb) and Glenn Ladd. On Dec. 21, 1973, he married Ann Woods. He farmed and owned KG Ladd & Sons Sawmill. Kenny loved woodworking and being outdoors, while hunting, fishing and gardening.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Ann; children, Adam Martin of Evansport, Chaundra and Rachel of Conway, S.C., William (Linda) of Indianapolis, Wayne (Becky) of Fort Wayne, Ernest (Lisa) of Paulding, Andrew (Barb) of Sherwood, Rebecca of Easton, Pa. and Beth (Rick) Knight of Hicksville; siblings, Joy Waller of Maple Hill, N.C., Norma of Yelm, Wash. and William of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27, with visitation one hour prior at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp. He will be laid to rest at Bethel Cemetery.

Visitation also will be held from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26.

YVONNE HARRIS

Yvonne Harris, a retired Paulding High School teacher, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014 from complications of a stroke.

Our mom had a great life, and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

There will be a private ceremony in Florida.

Memorials may be given to the “Shop With a Cop” fund at the Defiance Police Department.

 

 

DALE NIENBERG 1950-2014

KALIDA - Former educator and coach Dale J. Nienberg, 63, of Kalida, died Sunday, Jan. 19 at his residence.

 

BRICE CARNAHAN 1941-2014

SHELTON HOLLOW, W.Va. – Brice “Junior” Carnahan, age 72 of Shelton Hollow, W.Va. and formerly of Oakwood, died at 2:58 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16 at Cabell Huntington West Virginia Hospital.

He was born Feb. 14, 1941 in Paulding County to the late Brice and Freda (Ankney) Carnahan Sr. He married Susan Yoh, who survives in Charloe. They later divorced. Junior retired from Stoneco. He also owned the Charloe Store from 1976-91. He was a life member of Ohio Operators Engineer and was known as a collector of everything.

He is survived by his daughters, Jetta (Bryan) Wildermuth of Continental, Jodi Bell-Crosser of Antwerp and Julie (Rollin) Bullinger of Charloe; a son, Brice (Summer Lambert) Carnahan III of Paulding; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Raynord (Bonnie) Carnahan of Kalida, Larry (Diana) Carnahan of Mandale and Gary (Sandy) Carnahan of Defiance; two sisters, Gladys Hammon of Charloe and Wanda (Martin) Taylor of Oakwood; two stepsisters, Lillian (Ron) Bruns of Napoleon and Luella Kosch of Continental; and Harold “Gene” Yenser of Arthur, who was like a brother to him. Brice loved his two dogs, White Dog and Baby Girl Dog, just like they were part of the family.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Rill Carnahan; two granddaughters, ShaLisa Moyer and Brandi Moyer; a great-grandson, Jayden Mitchell; and a stepsister, Viola “Bunny” Goings.

The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood, with Pastor Harold “Gene” Yenser officiating.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Sunday and from 2-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

ANTWERP – Kathryn Jeane Schmunk, 80, of Antwerp, passed away Friday, Jan. 17 at Paulding County Hospital.

 

KATHRYN JENKINS 1917-2014

VAN WERT – Kathryn Marcile Jenkins, 96, of Van Wert, died at 4:12 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14 at Vancrest Health Care Center, Van Wert.

She was born May 5, 1917, in Grover Hill, the daughter of Lee M. and Belva (Sherry) Ross. On June 25, 1935, she married Clifford James Jenkins, who preceded her in death on Oct. 18, 1992.

Survivors include two sisters, Doris Jean (Robert) Long of Middle Point and Ruth Marie Crone of Grover Hill, a grandson, Bret (Melissa) Lewis of Van Wert, and great-grandchildren, Jordan Nicole Brown and Hayley D. Brown.

She was preceded in death by her children, Jimmie Lee Jenkins and Judith A. Lewis, a granddaughter, Dawn Renee Brown Endicott; and a brother: Lee McKinley Ross Jr.

Services will follow at a later date. Cowan & Son Funeral Home, Van Wert, is in charge of arrangements.

 

THOMAS HOWELL 1936-2014

CECIL – Thomas J. Howell, 77, of Cecil, passed away Saturday, Jan. 11 at his residence.

Tom was born in Fort Wayne on June 22, 1936, the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Whippert) Howell. On July 6, 1957, he married Barbara Glass. He worked at Schwerman Trucking and also farmed. He always enjoyed his time away camping and fishing at Morrison Lake.

He will be sadly missed by his wife, Barbara; children, Karen (John) Baldwin of Cecil, Amy (Mark) Rager of Paulding and Brock (Shelly) of Cecil; grandchildren, Jeremy, Gina, Kevin Jr., Shanna, Justin, Skylar, Connor and Kaylin; and great-grandchildren, A.J., Cameron, Colton, Summer, Brooke, Joey, Henry and Roman.

His son, Kevin, preceded him in death in 1999.

His service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, with visitation one hour prior to the service at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp. He will be laid to rest at Rochester Cemetery.

Visitation also will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Memorials are to Cecil Fire Department.

ANTWERP – Phyllis “Jeannie” Gerken, 77, of Antwerp, passed away Friday, Jan. 10 at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

 

MARY ELLEN MORSE 1936-2014

PAULDING – Mary Ellen Morse, age 77, died Friday, Jan. 3 at the Paulding County Hospital, Paulding.

She was born Nov. 29, 1936 in Brown Township, Paulding County, the daughter of Clarence J. and Roxie A. (Bosworth) Potts. On Aug. 26, 1956, she married Gary M. “Jake” Morse, who survives. She retired in 1997 from Diehl’s Inc. of Defiance after 30 years. She was a member of the Paulding VFW Post #587 Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Jake Morse, Paulding; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Elton and Hazen; and two sisters, Fairy Kennedy and Joy Parson.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. Burial will follow in Paulding Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2:30-8 p.m. with a VFW #587 Ladies Auxiliary service at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the funeral home, and one hour prior to services on Thursday.

JERRY FOUST 1952-2014

CECIL – Jerry L. Foust, age 61, died Thursday, Jan. 2 at the Hospice of NW Ohio, Toledo.

He was born July 4, 1952 in Defiance County, the son of Glenn B. and Ruth V. (Woodring) Foust. He was a member of Cecil Presbyterian Church. He received his bachelor of science in education at Bowling Green State University in 1975 and his master of arts in education from Defiance College in 1994. Jerry was employed for a short time for Fairview School, but spent the majority of his employment for North Central School System where he taught history, government and social studies.

He is survived by his mother, Ruth V. Foust, rural Cecil; a brother, Marvin (Margaret) Foust, Oregon, Ohio; a niece, Lisa (Steven) Dickens, Oregon; and a nephew, Michael (Niki) Foust, Chula Vista, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with burial in Rochester Cemetery, Cecil.

Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 7 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Wednesday.
