COLUMBUS - The Crestview Knights have completed a perfect season. With a 71-44 victory over Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas, Crestview has run the table, posting a 29-0 record and winning its first-ever boys basketball state championship.
The Knights led early, but the team speed of Aquinas gave Crestview trouble in the first half, leading to 11 Crestview turnovers.
As they did in the state semi-finals on Thursday, however, Crestview owned the third quarter.
The Knights used a 18-0 run to start the half to blow the game wide open, then cruised to the title.
Damian Helm scored 20 points to lead all scorers, but it was his defense that may have made the biggest difference. Helm took the assignment of guarding Aquinas' leading scorer, Austin Hill, and held his man to a mere six points on 3-of-6 shooting.
Tyson Bolenbaugh scored 18 points with eight rebounds and three blocked shots and Connor Lautzenheiser drilled three 3-pointers on his way to 11 points. Junior guard Preston Zaleski added 10 and Cam Etzler finished with five points, four assists and three steals.
