LESLIE “LES” ZIELKE 1946-2014

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. – Leslie “Les” R. Zielke, 67, of Summerville, husband of Marilyn Ruth (Tinker) Zielke, passed away on Saturday, July 12 at Trident Medical Center.

A gathering of friends and family was held at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Thursday, July 17. A memorial service was held on Friday, July 18 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, Summerville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church “Relay For Life Team,” 206 Central Avenue, Summerville, SC 29483.

Les was born on Sept. 3, 1946 in Fort Wayne, son of the late Lloyd Zielke and Erma (Rhoad) Zielke. He served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. Les graduated from Clemson University, Class of 1973, where he received his bachelor’s degree in agricultural engineering. He was employed by SCE&G for 37 years. He most recently served as a district engineer with electric operations. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife Marilyn are one daughter, Amy Zielke of Summerville, S.C; one son, Matthew (Janet) Zielke of Summerville; three grandchildren, McKenna, Megan and Maryn.

He was predeceased by two brothers and one sister, Gary Zielke, Dennis Zielke and Lisa Elick.

KEN SNELLENBERGER 1921-2014

Kenneth Snellenberger, 93, a resident at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in Manteno, passed away Saturday, July 26 at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital due to a brief illness.

A gathering of family and friends will be from 10-11 a.m. prior to the 11 a.m. service on Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Bourbonnais Chapel of the Schreffler Life Story Funeral Home.

The family will gather at the grave site for burial and military rites at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 4 at the Gardens of Memory cemetery near Huntington, Ind.

Memorials may be made to Kankakee Youth for Christ.

He was born June 28, 1921 in Payne, Ohio, the son of Andrew and Erva Snellenberger. Ken attended Olivet Nazarene College until being drafted into the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Evalyn Pasko on Nov. 15, 1947 in Huntington, Ind. They lived in Huntington until retiring in Clearwater, Fla. Evalyn passed away June 15, 1996. They were married for 49 years.

Ken worked as a mechanic and found a way to fix anything. He was a devoted Christian, enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, boating, shuffle boarding, riding his bike or scooter, helping others as a handyman, and making crafts to share with the people he loved. Ken enjoyed traveling and staying active until his last days.

He is survived by one son, Paul (Val) Snellenberger of Bourbonnais; two grandchildren, Amy Snellenberger (Sean Rock) of Livonia, Mich. and Ryan and (Amber) Snellenberger of Bartlett, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Landon and Jase of Bartlett.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

LENA KEESBERY 1924-2014

PAULDING – Lena Mae Keesbery, age 90, died Tuesday, July 22 at The Gardens of Paulding.

She was born July 18, 1924 in Paulding, the daughter of Ray J. and Ethel Mae (Littlejohn) Boroff. She married Wyatt Keesbery, who preceded her in death in 1985.

She is survived by three nieces, Kathleen Rodman, Toni Schliesser and Sue (Kevin) Pease; and great-nieces, Kirby Stinson and Cari Fraley.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Ray J. Boroff.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, July 26 at Den Herder Funeral Home. Burial was in Hedges Cemetery, Paulding County.

WOODBURN – Maurice B. Martin, 93, of Woodburn, passed away Saturday, July 26 at Byron Health Center, Fort Wayne.

 

GERALDINE GRIFFIN 1917-2014

ST. CLAIR SHORES, MICH. – Geraldine M. Griffin, 97, died Sunday, July 20.

She was the beloved wife of the late Harold D. Workman and the late Harold Griffin; and the loving mother of the late Sonny Workman and the late Gene Workman.

She was the dear grandmother of Sheryl Workman and Robert (William) Workman and great-grandchildren, Katharine, Azalea, Anjelika and Andrew.

She is also survived by step-children, Shirley Brumer, David (Debbie) Griffin and step-grandchildren, Cathleen (Geoff) Daniel, Pamela (Todd) Brown and David (Laura) Griffin. Burial services were at Little Auglaize Cemetery in Melrose.

MARGARET CLEMENS 1925-2014

LATTY – Margaret A. Clemens, age 89, died Tuesday, July 22 at the Country Inn Enhanced Living Center, Paulding.

She was born Feb. 14, 1925 in Paulding County, the daughter of Elza and Emma (Hubert) Tope. On Feb. 14, 1948, she married William K. Clemens, who survives. She was a member of the Paulding Church of Christ. She retired in 1986 from the U.S. Postal Service as postmaster of the Latty Post Office.

She is survived by her husband, William Clemens, Latty; two sons, Randy (Karen) Clemens of Naples, Fla. and Brad (Kathy) Clemens of Paulding; and five grandchildren, Seth, Jacob, Adam and Gabriel (Kimberly) Clemens and Ella (Patrick) Thomas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Wilbur, August, Ira and Carl Tope; and three sisters, Catherine Stoller, Maxine Riggenbach and Dorathea Blue.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26 at the Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding. Burial will follow in Blue Creek Cemetery, Haviland.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Friday, July 25 and one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

RON LANE 1936-2014

PAULDING – G. Ronald Lane, age 78, died Thursday, July 10 at the Tidwell Hospice Center, Arcadia, Fla.

He was born March 18, 1936 in Toledo, the son of William T. and Eliner (Jacqua) Lane. On April 20, 1957, he married Donna J. Patterson, who survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a self-employed coatings specialist and a former Paulding County commissioner.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Lane, Paulding; children, Tony (Barbara) Lane, Maumee, Scott (Susan) Lane, Tontogony, Christopher (Linda) Lane, Perrysburg, Matthew (Ann) Lane, Bowling Green, Alice Crandell, Toledo, Tina (Scott) Mekus, Swanton, and Abby Lane, Rudolph; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom (Ruth) Lane, Maine, and a sister, Bevrly Gruenke, of Michigan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 29 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with the Rev. Roger Emerson officiating. Burial will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Monday, July 28 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

RICHARD MINCK 1940-2014

SHERWOOD – Richard A. Minck, 74, of Sherwood, passed away Friday, July 18 at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice, Defiance.

Richard was born Feb. 20, 1940 in Defiance, the son of the late John and Mildred (Coressel) Minck. He was a 1958 graduate of Paulding High School. Richard married Marilyn Ann Antoine on June 8, 1968 in Cecil, and she survives. Richard was employed by Dana Weatherhead in Antwerp for 32 years, retiring in 1997. A lifelong farmer, Richard was also a bus driver for Paulding Schools. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church, Delaware Bend. He enjoyed tinkering around in his garage and watching NASCAR.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn, of Sherwood; five children, Jim Minck of Lennox, S.D., Robert (Melissa) Minck of Edgerton, MaryAnn (Terrence) Coe of Saginaw, Mich., David (Danielle) Minck of Bryan and Rose (Jim) VanCuren of Hicksville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gary (Thyra) Minck of St. Joe, Ind.

Funeral Mass for Richard A. Minck will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 23 in St. Isidore Catholic Church, Delaware Bend, with Father Robert Kill officiating. Interment will follow in St. Isidore Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 22 in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Sherwood, where the Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m.

ANTWERP – Teresa C. Hertel, age 87, died Wednesday, July 16.

 

LORNA WOODARD MORSE 1973-2014

Lorna Marie Morse, age 41, of McComb, passed from this earth and was called to her eternal heavenly home by the Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 16.

She was born in Paulding on April 6, 1973 to Terry and Mary (Coy) Woodard. On May 25, 1996, she married the love of her life, David Morse, who survives. She graduated from Paulding High School in 1991 and went on to earn her college degree from Cedarville College. She was employed at the McComb Public Library and taught at the McComb Elementary School. She was a member of Findlay First Church of the Nazarene where she was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Lorna enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her two sons, Samuel and Joseph, at home; a sister, Marla Gibbs and her sons, Blake and Graham, of Findlay; brother- and sister-in-law, Jonathan and Heidi Morse of McComb; sisters-  and brothers-in-law Sandra and David Inbody of McComb and Elizabeth and Matthew Naylor of Ottawa, and their families; father- and mother-in-law William and Carla Morse of McComb.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Paul and Juanita Woodard; and maternal grandparents, Daniel and Helen Coy.

Funeral services will be held at the Findlay First Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, July 19 with Pastor Michael McClurg officiating. Interment will follow at McComb Union Cemetery.

Friends and family may visit on Friday, July, 18 from 2-4 and 5-8 PM at Lehtomaa funeral home, 201 Osborn Ave. Findlay, and 1 hour before the service at church.

Lehtomaa Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

MARY KLOPFENSTEIN 1928-2014

SCOTT – Mary E. Klopfenstein, 85, died Tuesday, July 15 at her residence.

She was born Oct. 19, 1928 in Wells County, Ind., the daughter of Jacob and Minnie (Baumgartner) Tonner. On Dec. 10, 1950, she married Marvin W. Klopfenstein, who survives.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Klopfenstein, Scott; a son, Keith (JoAnne) Klopfenstein, Scott; a daughter, Karen (Lester) Manz, Paulding; two sisters, Marcella (Truman) Yergler and Doris (Dale) Feichter, both of Bluffton, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Jaymee Klopfenstein; two sisters, Cordelia Aeshliman and Lucille Reinhard; and two brothers, Curtis and Harry Tonner.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, July 17 at the Latty Apostolic Christian Church with burial following at the Chuch cemetery.

Vistation will be 2:30-8 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at the church fellowship hall and one hour prior to services at the church. Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, is in charge of arrangements.

RUSSEL McCLURE 1937-2014

FORT WAYNE – Russel Rex McClure, 77, of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, July 11. He was born on Jan. 29, 1937 in Continential to the late Everett and Violet (Fruchey) McClure.

Surviving is his wife Barbara; two sons, Jeffrey (Jane) McClure and Dennis (Susan) McClure; three granddaughters, Emily, Meagan and Madeline. He has six brothers and sisters including Dana, Marie, Cleona, Larry, Earl and Vinal.

He worked at, and retired as, a systems analyst manager at GE for 22 years and was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed traveling the world, golfing, coaching basketball at St John’s Catholic Church in New Haven and St Peter’s Catholic Church. McClure voluntered at St Mary’s Soup Kitchen and for Homebound Meals.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, July 18 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fort Wayne. There will be a gathering of family and friends following the Mass at the St. Mary’s Soup Kitchen fellowship hall.

Burial will be at the Middle Creek Cemetery in Grover Hill.

JANICE LIPP 1947-2014

PAULDING – Janice Lynn Lipp, age 67, succumbed to injuries sustained in a May automobile accident on Friday, July 11.

She was born Jan. 29, 1947, in Toledo, the daughter of Karl and Garland (Ritz) Werling. She graduated in 1965 from Paulding High School, and graduated in 1969 from Defiance College. On Dec. 27, 1969, she married her best friend, Gary Lipp, who survives. She was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Parish and taught for 43 years in the Paulding School system. Janice rescued and adopted countless dogs of many breeds. She worked rescuing dogs through the Greyhound Inmate Experience, Greyhounds of Eastern Michigan, Galgo Scuby North America and Ohio Lurcher Project. She did transports for many greyhound groups and the Paulding County Dog Kennel.

Janice is survived by her husband, Gary W. Lipp; sons, Brian (Adrienne) Lipp of Paulding, Michael (Carrie) Lipp of Maricopa, Ariz. and Aaron (Caroline) Lipp of Greenwood, Ind.; seven grandchildren; siblings, Kathy Haney of Canton, David (Brenda) Werling, Albuquerque, N.M., Ellen (Arvin) Grimm, Fort Wayne, Lisa Werling, Convoy, and Ann Miller, Paulding; lifelong friends, Dee and Johnny Bowen; and 11 beloved dogs.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, July 18 at Divine Mercy Catholic Parish, Paulding. Burial will be in Paulding Memorial Cemetery, Paulding.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Thursday, July 17 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding with a family memorial service of remembrance followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m.

RONDA WYNNE 1953-2013

SHERWOOD – Ronda Sue (Kreager) Wynne, 60, of Sherwood, died unexpectedly on Nov. 17, 2013 in Guangdong, China, where she was teaching Spoken English.

Ronda graduated from Antwerp Local in 1971 and was an avid crafter and seamstress.

Survivors are her husband, Steve; sons, Josh and Chris (Penny) Wynne; parents, Harold and Ruby Kreager; siblings Rod (Susan)Kreager, Cindy (Terry) Slattman, and Jan (Scott) Michael; niece Melinda (Corbin) Rhonehouse; and nephew Jay Michael.

Services to be held at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harlan, Ind. on Saturday, July 19, 2014 with visitation at 1:30 p.m. and services at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Amy Beitelschees-Albers.

 

CHARLES FAST 1925-2014

HAVILAND – Charles Henry Fast, age 89, died Saturday, July 12 at Glenn Park of Defiance.

He was born June 5, 1925 in Paulding County, the son of William C. and Marie H. (Stiebeling) Fast. On Feb. 23, 1947, he married June Gerber, who preceded him in death on Oct. 19, 2009. He was a lifetime self-employed farmer, retiring in 2012. He was a member of John Paulding Historical Society, Gideon’s International and a member of the former Baptist Church of Haviland.

He is survived by a son, Robert (Jan) Fast, Sanford, Fla.; a daughter, Barbara (Seth) Shelton, Shelby, N.C.; a brother, William (Gloria) Fast, Haviland; two sisters, Barbara (Richard) Reichter, Andover, Mass. and Marie (Mike) Baughman, Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren, Angela Myers and Joshua (Heather) Shelton; and three great-grandchildren, Brady, Alyson and Blake Shelton.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a brother, John.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with Pastor Joe Shouse officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Creek Cemetery, Haviland.

Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Monday, July 14 at Den Herder Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

DIANNA CLEMENS 1951-2014

PAULDING – Dianna Clemens, 63, of Paulding, died at 10:13 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 at St. Joseph Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She was born Feb. 24, 1951 in Prosser, Wash., to George and Ramona (Place) Stahl. Her father is deceased; her mother survives in Melrose. On July 15, 1967, she married George Clemens, who survives in Paulding. Dianna worked at the Paulding Senior Citizen Center. She was an avid fan of wrestling and helped form the Paulding Wrestling Club. She kept score for Paulding and Wayne Trace wrestling for the last 30 years. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed country music and going around visiting people.

Also surviving are two sons, George (Victoria) Clemens of Antwerp and Luke (Kindra) Clemens of Cloverdale; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Joe (Brenda) Stahl of Grover Hill, Jim (Cheryl) Stahl of Oakwood and Tom Stahl of Payne; a sister, Debby (Jim) Leverton of Payne; and a sister-in-law, Teresa Stahl of Melrose.

She was preceded in death by a son, Todd Clemens; a daughter, Corina Clemens; and a brother, Tim Stahl.

Funeral service will be noon Saturday, July 12 at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Grover Hill, with the Rev. Dave Prior officiating. Burial will follow in Little Auglaize Cemetery, Melrose.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Friday, July 11 and from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Oakwood.

PAYNE – Jeffrey Louis Schaefer, 70, passed away Tuesday, July 8 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

 

 

CHRIS CLUTS 1959-2014

Robert Chris Cluts, 54, formerly of Paulding, passed away at his residence in Meridian, Miss. on Wednesday, June 11.

He was a tool and die engineer for Tower International and had previously been employed at Dana Corporation, overseeing their tool and die division. He also served his country in the U.S. Navy.

The memory that the family will cherish is that of a wonderful husband, dad and grandfather, who was very dedicated to his family. He enjoyed fishing, golf and music.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; daughter, Lindsey; son, Jason and wife Jennifer; grandchildren, Rachel and Ryan. He is also survived by his stepmother, Dawn Cluts; brothers, Staley (Lori) Cluts and Randy Krick; and sister, Kelly (David) Pracht.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert S. Cluts and mother, Sheila A. Smith Wojciechowski.

Visitation was held in Meridian, Miss.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 12 at Woodburn Missionary Church, 5108 Bull Rapids Rd., Woodburn.

 

CYNTHIA JEAN COAK POSTMA 1957-2014

Cynthia “Cyndy” Postma passed away Thursday, June 26 after a brief stay at Lutheran Hospital.

She was born a daughter of Bernard Coak (deceased) and Erma Strahley on April 2, 1957 in Fort Wayne. Cyndy was a graduate of Purdue University with a degree in nursing. Her career included D.O.N, with nursing homes and hospice and home healthcare. She retired in 2007. She was a member of Three Rivers Baptist Church.

Surviving are her four loving sons, Benjamin Hash, Eric Brenton, Patrick Brenton and John Postma, all from New Haven; mother, Erma Strahley of Paulding; brothers, Mitch (Karen) of West Virginia, Mick (Angie) of Paulding, Mark (Kim) Rebber of Paulding and Kent Coak of Kokomo, Ind.; sisters, Brenda (Gene) Bland of Dayton, Robin (Joe Coak) of Plainfield, Conn.; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, in 2006; and granddaughter, Jade, in 2001.

Funeral service was Tuesday, July 1 at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, with Pastor Douglas Jackson officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven.

NEW HAVEN – Sharon L. (Miller) Ashbaugh, 76, of New Haven, died Sunday morning, July 6, at her residence.

 

ALICE BRUNS 1927-2014

PAYNE – Alice Ann Bruns, 87, of Payne, passed away Saturday, July 5 at Paulding County Hospital.

Alice was born May 5, 1927 in New Bavaria, a daughter of the late Cora (Thome) and Ray Peck. On Oct. 25, 1947, Alice married Eugene Bruns, who died Oct. 17, 2009. In 1973, she received the Paulding County Woman of the Year award for her work as a volunteer. She was a member of Divine Mercy Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society.

Alice will be sadly missed by her children, Theresa (Joe) Lehman of Haviland, Mary (Fritz) Cooper of Garrett, Ind. and William (Karen) of New Haven; sisters, Josephine “Jody” Elms, Arvada, Colo., Kathleen “Dolly” Barlage of Maumee and Betty O’Shaughnessey of Monroeville, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Alice was also preceded in death by her son, Gary; and brothers, Quimby, Alfred, Walter, Vincent Leo and Raymond.

Her funeral mass is at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 10 at Divine Mercy Catholic Church, Payne. She will be laid to rest at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, with the Rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. at Dooley Funeral Home, Payne. Visitation also will be held there from 9-9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Memorials are to Masses, Divine Mercy Catholic School or the donor’s choice.

SUSAN BAKSA 1955-2014

PAULDING – Susan Kay Baksa, age 58, died Thursday, July 3, at her home.

She was born Dec. 22, 1955 in Van Wert, the daughter of George E. and C. Eileen (Knittle) Rice. On Nov. 2, 1974, she married Roger W. Baksa, who survives. She was a member of Convoy Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Evangelism Committee and the Pastor Parsonage Committee.

She is survived by her husband, Roger, Paulding; her mother, Eileen Rice, Van Wert; three children, Carrie Baksa of Grover Hill, George Daniel (Kristen) Baksa of Van Wert and Derrick Baksa, Paulding; a sister, Connie (Merl) Bolenbaugh, Van Wert; and three grandchildren, Jake, Lilly and Carter.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10 at Den Herder Funeral Home, Paulding, with Pastor Greg Leigh officiating. Burial will be in Hedges Cemetery, Paulding.

Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Convoy United Methodist Church.

GLEN SCHMIDT 1926-2014

PAYNE – Glen W. Schmidt, 87, of Payne, passed away Wednesday, July 2 at Parkview Regional Medical Center.

Glen was born on Sept. 18, 1926 in Payne, a son of the late Ida (Carpenter) and Harry Schmidt. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy, was the owner of the Blacksmith Shop in Payne and co-owner of Almet in New Haven. On March 15, 1947, Glen married Donna Deeter. Glen was a devout member of Divine Mercy Catholic Parish.

Glen will be sadly missed by his wife, Donna; children, Dennis (Shirley) of Hawaii, Daniel of Englewood, Fla., Diane (Jim) Langbehn of Cornelius, Ore., Gregory of Cedarville, Ind. and Gay (James) Beebe of Delton, Mich.; siblings, Victoria Fisher, Lucille, Paul and William (Linda), all of Payne, Roy (Joann) and Delores Dougherty, both of Fort Wayne, and Betty Rister of Antwerp; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
