GLOBE, ARIZ. René Joan Ernest Bonning, 43, of Globe, Ariz., formerly
of Cecil died at 5:14 a.m. (Arizona time), July 3.
She was born Dec. 6, 1960, the daughter of David and Pearl Ernest. On June 15,
1979, she married Robert Bonning of Defiance, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Pearl; a son, Robert Bonning Jr.; three sisters,
Rosalie (Dick) Gasser of Payne, Rhonda (Steven) Lantow Sr. of Paulding, and
Elizabeth (Jerry) Wise of Oakwood; two grandchildren; and several nieces and
nephews.
Services are pending in Globe, Ariz.
WILLIS FINNEGAN
1914-2004
PAULDING Willis Henry Finnegan, 90, of Paulding, died at 7:45 p.m., Sunday,
July 4, at the Hawthorn Court Nursing Home in Paulding.
He was born March 23, 1914, in Blue Creek Township, the son of William and Emma
(Hook) Finnegan. He was a retired farmer and a truck driver for the former Union
Quarries of Scott.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Floyd, Harvey, William, George and
Fred Finnegan and two sisters, Grace Pate and Cloe Aleshire.
Services will be held today, July 7, at Den Herder Funeral Home, with visitation
one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Blue Creek Cemetery, Haviland.
BEULAH STRALEY
1912-2004
FINDLAY Beulah A. Straley, 92, of Findlay, died at 8:30 a.m., July 2,
at Fox Run Manor, formerly The Blanchard House.
She was born Dec. 20, 1912, in Paulding, the daughter of Otto E. and Martha
(Mossiney) Ludwig. She taught school in Paulding for many years, owned the Hasty
Tasty Lunch Counter, was in ownership of the Findlay Motel and Dairy Whip with
her husband, Huston Straley, owned Hair Salon, was a troubleshooter for L.K.
Enterprises, and also managed Jo Anne Fabrics in Findlay. She was a member of
Eastern Star.
Surviving are a daughter, Mirella R. (Donald) Zimmerman of Findlay; brothers
and sisters, Lois Young of Payne and DeLean Dotterer of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; four
grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sharlene Chiles; a brother, William
of Lima; and three sisters, Florence Unger, Helen Reinhart and Lela Wilhelm
all of Paulding.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 10, at the Howard
United Methodist Church in Findlay, with the Rev. Deborah Stevens officiating.
Bea is donating her body to the Medical College of Ohio in the Anatomical
Donation Program.

HOCKESSIN, Del. Elizabeth (Strayer) Trier Tyler, 92, of Cokesbury Village,
Hockessin, Del., died on July 2, following an extended illness.
She was born Aug. 9, 1911, in Payne, the daughter of Jerry and Minnie Strayer.
She graduated from the Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing and was employed
as a registered nurse. In 1940, she married Raymond T. Trier, who preceded her
in death in 1987. She married Chaplin W. Tyler, who preceded her in death on
Feb. 29, 2004.
Surviving are a son, Stanley T. (Ellen) Trier of Dover, Del; a daughter, Sally
(Gareth) Grant of Sydney, Australia; eight grandsons; two grand daughter-in-laws;
and a great- granddaughter.
Burial was in Paris, Texas.

SHERWOOD Hazel L. Eichenauer, 66, of Sherwood, died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday,
July 6, at the Harborside Healthcare Center in Bryan.
She was born Dec. 8, 1937, in Defiance, the daughter of Paul W. and Mabel I.
(Etchie) Parent, who both preceded her in death. On Nov. 30, 1957, she married
Daniel D. Eichenauer, who survives. She was a former aide at the Defiance Hospital,
and a homemaker/domestic. She had attended the Sherwood Open Bible Church for
many years.
Also surviving are two sons, William and Michael Eichenauer, both of Sherwood;
and a sister, Peggy (Davie) Parker of Sherwood.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Parent.
Services were held Friday, July 9 at the Sherwood United Methodist Church, with
the Rev. George Alley officiating. Burial was in the Sherwood Cemetery.

ELSIE SCOTT
CHAFEE, Mo. Elsie Emelia Scott, 84, of Chafee, Mo., formerly of Detroit,
Paulding, Homestead, Fla. and Stanford, N.C., died Feb. 1, 2004, at St. Francis
Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She owned a bowling alley/diner, a bar, nightclub, hotel and two restaurants,
sold cosmetics, volunteered at a hospital, and was a volunteer at the Bread
Basket in Sanford.
Surviving are a grandson, two granddaughters, a stepdaughter, and many great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were a son, Herbie; and a daughter Lydia Wyatt.
Services were held in February in the St. Ambrose Catholic Church. Graveside
services were held July 9 in Live Oak Cemetery, Paulding. Den Herder Funeral
Home in Paulding was in charge of the graveside services.
ELOISE STOUT
1927-2004
ANTWERP Eloise Stout, 76, of Antwerp, died at 4:48 p.m. Tuesday, July
6, at Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born Dec. 16, 1927, in Muscle Shoals, Ala., the daughter of Rollie and
Annie Mae (Graham) Sharpton. On April 16, 1947, she married Howard Dean
Stout, who survives. She was a head cashier at Kroger and A&P in Fort Wayne
and a member of the First Baptist Church in Antwerp. She loved her herb garden,
flowers, cooking and decorating.
Also surviving are a daughter, Peggy Hurt of Fort Wayne; two grandsons; eight
great-grandchildren; and two sisters, June Claymiller of Fort Wayne and Jewel
Claunch of Phoenix.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra; a brother, Edward Sharpton,
and a sister, Martha Babcock.
Services were held Friday, July 9 at the First Baptist Church in Antwerp, with
the Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Burial was in the Maumee Cemetery in Antwerp.
Dooley Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

CHICAGO David L. Hooker, 64, a past Paulding and Fort Wayne resident,
died on Monday, July 5.
He was born May 6, 1940, in Paulding, the son of John C. and Buelah (Schultz)
Hooker, who both preceded him in death. He retired from International Harvester
in 1995. He was an active member of Northwestern University Institute for Learning
in Retirement. He was also a founding member of the Fort Dearborn Chapter of
S.A.R., a member of MENSA and a volunteer in many social organizations.
Surviving is a sister, Patricia L. Hooker.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 20, at the Fourth Presbyterian
Church of Chicago. A memorial service will be held in Paulding at a later date,
with inurnment to follow in the Blue Creek Cemetery in Paulding County.

CONVOY Maria J. Pierce, 32, of Convoy, died at 5:10 p.m. Wednesday, July
7 from injuries received in a car crash at Ohio 49 and U.S. 30.
She was born Aug. 31, 1971, in Lima, the daughter of Rita (Ernst) and Norbert
Nub Schnipke, who both survive in Ottoville. On Sept. 7, 1991, she
married Randy Pierce, who survives. She was the marketing supervisor at Central
Mutual Insurance Company in Van Wert, a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption
Catholic Church in Van Wert, a member of the Insurance Conference Planners,
treasurer of the Convoy Sports Center Board and was a member of the Youth Football
Association Board.
Also surviving are a son, Steven, and a daughter, Angela,, both at home; four
brothers, Michael (Daphne) Schnipke of Ney, Rodney Schnipke of Ottoville, Terry
(Theresa) Schnipke of Columbus Grove, and Christopher (Theresa) Schnipke of
Ottoville.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Bradley Schnipke.
Services were held Saturday, July 10 at the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic
Church in Van Wert, with Father Charles Obinwa and Deacon Andy McMahon officiating.
Burial was in the Convoy I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Gearhart, Mack and Jurczyk Funeral
Home in Convoy was in charge of the arrangements.

CECIL J. Francis Minck, 100, of Cecil, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, July
10, at his residence.
He was born March 27, 1904, in Cecil, the son of Joseph A. and Anna M. (Coressel)
Minck. On March 4, 1930, he married Dorothy E. Bayliss, who preceded him in
death in 1990. He was a retired farmer and a lifetime member of the Immaculate
Conception Catholic Church in Cecil. He was a member of the Paulding Council
#2584 Knights of Columbus for over 78 years, a member of the Fourth Degree Bishop
Rappe Assembly Knights of Columbus #824 where he served as district deputy of
the K of C for several years, and was a member of the Defiance Elks Lodge #147.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph F. of Defiance and Jerry Minck of Cecil;
five daughters, Julianne (Orville) Smith, Marilyn (James) Waploe, Janis (Keith)
Hubbard and Joan (Doug) McBride, all of Defiance, and Jeannine (Bob) Miller
of Paulding; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild;
eight step-grandchildren; and 24 step-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Coletta Grew and Anna Hoover;
three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, July 14, at the St. Michaels Catholic
Church near Defiance, with Father Herman Scherger officiating. Co-officiating
will be Father Dave Tscheme and Deacon David Laker. Mausoleum encryptment will

OAKWOOD Donald Keith McCullough Sr., 80, of Oakwood, died
at 3:38 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne where
he had been a patient for one day.
He was born July 13, 1923, in Oakwood, the son of James S. and Gertrude (Wright)
McCullough. On Feb. 27, 1942, he married Barbra Jean Maddock, who survives in
Oakwood. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII as a pharmacist
mate first class on the USS Segundo SS-398 in the South Pacific. He retired
in 1985 as an agent/telegraph operator for the former Nickel Plate Railroad
following 43 years of service. He was a member of the Oakwood American Legion,
VFW Post #587 in Paulding, the Southwest Florida U.S. Submarine Veterans World
War II Chapter, and attended the Oakwood United Methodist Church.
Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy Williams of Smith Mountain Lake, Va.
and Jean (Dan) Bulau of Van Wert; three sons, Mike (Wendy) McCullough of Hudson,
Mich., Donald McCullough Jr. of Lambertville, Mich., and James (Cheryl) McCullough
of Mayhill, N.M.; a brother, Roger McCullough of Fort Myers, Fla.; a sister,
Marilyn Young of Oakwood; 11 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren;
one great-stepgrandchild; and one great-great-grandson.

home after an extended illness.
He was born May 24, 1975 in Defiance, the son of Raymond and Joyce (Workman)
McCloud. He was formerly employed by Larry Grace Construction, Paulding.
Surviving are his parents, of Paulding; a daughter, Chelsie Miller, Defiance;
a son, Coltin McCloud, Van Wert; a brother, Darrin (Julie) McCloud, Cecil; a
sister, Elaine McCloud, Paulding; a niece and nephew; his nurse, Patti Stoller;
and caregiver, Linda Aldred.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

BRICETON Evelyn Sis Miller, 73, died last week at her residence.
She was born Nov. 18, 1930, in Van Wert County, the daughter of Nina (Girod)
and Gayle Ashbaugh. She was a 1948 graduate of Hoaglin-Jackson High School and
retired following 33 years of service as a head cook for Blue Creek and later
Wayne Trace Local Schools.
Surviving are a daughter, Cheryll (Louis) Miller of Defiance; Joyce Hessel of
Scott; two brothers, Gerald (Reta) Ashbaugh of Van Wert and Delbert Saylor of
Florida; and two grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a stepfather, Virgil Saylor; and three
brothers, Alton Ashbaugh, David Stooge Ashbaugh, and Elbert Saylor.

CLOVERDALE Wilma L. Torman May, 52, of Cloverdale, died at 2:50 a.m.
Monday, July 19, in her residence.
She was born Jan. 8, 1952, in Fraziers Bottom, W.Va., the daughter of Orion
H. and Lorene A. (Chapman) Holley. On April 26, 1969, she married David R. Torman,
who preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 2000. On Aug. 16, 2003, she married William
R. May Jr., who survives in Cloverdale. She was a homemaker and a member of
the Mandale CCCU Church.
Also surviving are a son, David R. (Angel) Torman, Cloverdale; a daughter, Kimberly
Torman, Cloverdale; four brothers, W.E. (Rheba) Holley of Newark, Alonzo (Linda)
Holley of Hurricane, W.Va., Ira Dale (Ellen) Holley of Florida, and Michael
Mercedes Holley of Pennsylvania; a sister, Anna Gillispie of Fraziers Bottom,
W.Va.; four grandchildren; four stepbrothers; six stepsisters; and three step-grandchildren.

GROVER HILL Forest (Frosty) Odaffer, 90, of Grover Hill, died at 10:05
a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 24, 1913, in Ohio City, the son of Lewis and Lucille (Mottinger)
Odaffer. In 1936, he married Marcile Oakley, who preceded him in death. He was
a farmer, a member of Mt. Pleasant Church in rural Van Wert County, and a softball
umpire and player.
Surviving are a son, Larry (Alice) Odaffer of Scott; three sisters, Clara Belle
Rogers of Florida, Marianna Coil of Venedocia, and Ethel Taylor of Van Wert;
two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by five brothers, William, Russell, Floyd Whitey,
Carl, and Roy Donald in infancy.
Services were held Friday, July 16 at the Mt. Pleasant Church with the Rev.
Phil Mercer officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

PAULDING Andrew Andy James Jones, 22, of Paulding, died at
12:19 a.m. Saturday, July 24, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle
crash in Jackson Township.
He was born Sept. 28, 1981, in Toledo, the son of David W. and Dianne T. (Herr)
Jones, who both survive in Paulding. He was a 2000 graduate of Paulding High
School and was employed by Sauders Woodworking of Archbold. He was a member
of St. Josephs Catholic Church in Paulding.
He is also survived by a daughter, Paige Bree Jones of Paulding; Paiges
mother, Rachel Densmore, Paulding; two sisters, Alicia Jones of Oakwood and
Rachel Jones of Paulding; two brothers, Eric and Ryan Jones of Paulding; and
paternal grandparents, Earl and Joann Jones of Toledo.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vincent and Theresa Herr.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church
in Paulding, with the Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will be in St.
Paul Cemetery, Paulding.

Violet I. Edwards, 79, died Saturday, July 24, at Convoy Care Center.
She was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Sikeston, Mo., the daughter of John and Clara
(Begley) Matlock. In 1945, she married Clarence Edwards, who preceded her in
death in 1997. She was an accomplished seamstress and a member of Calvary Temple
Church in Fort Wayne.
Surviving are three sons, Gene (Linda) of Payne, Marv (Janis) and Randy (Lora)
Mitchell, both of Hicksville; a daughter, Gureta (Ron) Nusbaum of Apopka, Fla.;
a brother, Amond Edwards of Iuka, Miss.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

sister, Mildred Ward; and two grandchildren.

illness.
He was born Jan. 25, 1953, in Defiance, the son of John Jack and
Helen (Tadsen) McDonald. He was a former employee of Dietrich Industries in
Hicksville.
He is survived by his mother, Helen L. McDonald of Paulding; a daughter, Missy
(Brock) Funkhouser of Montpelier; a stepdaughter, Becky (Jack) Cain of Kunkle,
Ohio; three sisters, Jacqueline (Richard) Johanns of Paulding, Amy (Bill) Kochenour
of Oakwood and Tonette Edwards of Grover Hill; a grandson; and two step granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his father, John McDonald in 1991.

Friday, July 23, at the Van Wert County Hospital.
She was born May 2, 1927, in Lagrange County, Ind., the daughter of Henry and
Mary I. (Knott) Ludwig. On Feb. 2, 1954, she married Chester W. Peck, who preceded
her in death. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are four daughters, Suellen Reiter of Fort Wayne, Barbara A. (Neil)
Shamberg of Montpelier, Mary I. Holland of Fort Wayne and Shannon K. (Bill)
Griswold of Indianapolis; two sons, Paul G. and Shawn W. Peck, both of Fort
Wayne; 24 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Mary Bernardin, 77, of Fort Wayne, died at 2:49 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Heritage
Park Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 27, 1927, in Cleveland, the daughter of Thomas and Theresa
(Bernardin) Kerns. She had worked at Dana Weatherhead in Antwerp, and Ferns
Fruit Market, and Spartan Restaurant, both in Fort Wayne. She was a member of
the St. Patricks Catholic Church and the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception,
Fort Wayne.
Surviving are a brother, William Kerns of Las Vegas; and her nieces and nephews.

Former Defiance resident Alice Katie Kathryn Allgire, 82, died at
7:43 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, in Heartland of Browning Nursing Home in Waterville.
She was born April 9, 1922 in Paulding County, the daughter of Charles and Margaret
(Williams) Harmon. In 1959, she married LeRoy Allgire, who preceded her in death
in 1984. She was manager of Colonial Manor apartments for 10 years. She was
a member of St. John Lutheran Church and a life member of VFW Post 3360 Auxiliary.
Surviving are three sons, J.R. Scheirer of Port Charlotte, Fla., Tom Scheirer
of Greenwood, S.C. and David Scheirer of Melrose; two daughters, Sharon (Victor)
Nagel and Sandra (John) Andrist, all of Defiance; nine grandchildren; seven
stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and 13 great-stepgrandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Deloris and Eva Eitniear, May
Retcher and Flossie Bidlack; and four brothers, Clarence, Cecil, Robert and
Frank Harmon.

BRYAN Howard F. Mitchell, 83, of Bryan, died Friday morning, July 23,
at the Harborside Healthcare Center in Bryan.
He was born April 25, 1921, in Paulding, the son of Leon A. and Edna (Huss)
Mitchell. He was a Navy veteran, serving in WWII in the Pacific Theater. He
had been employed as a truck driver and a truck mechanic. He was a member of
VFW Post 2489 and a past member of the Bryan Eagles.
Surviving are two sons, Howard E. Mitchell Jr. of Bryan and Edward Mitchell
of Spring Lake, Fla.; four daughters, Mary (Tom) Phillips of Bryan, Sandra (Tony)

ANTWERP Mildred L. Figert, 92, of Antwerp, died at 2:30 p.m. Monday,
July 26, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 1, 1912 in Wabash County, Ind., the daughter of George H.
and Mattie E. (Miller) Bowen. On May 10, 1930, she married Chester C. Figert,
who preceded her in death in 1992. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Pauls
United Methodist Church in Payne. She was the last charter member of the Payne
Grange.
Surviving are three daughters, Patsy Blankenship of Fort Wayne, and Donna Flagg
and Linda Myers, both of Convoy; three sons, Russel and Richard, both of Antwerp,
and Robert of Payne; a brother, Maurice Bill Bowen of Huntington,
Ind.; 13 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Clarence and Ralph Bowen; a sister,
Beatrice Drudge; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at St. Pauls United Methodist
Church in Payne, with the Rev. Amy Haines officiating. Burial will be in Lehman
Cemetery.

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. Carolyn Ann Salisbury, 58, of Knoxville, Tenn., a former
Paulding resident, died at 2:29 a.m., Wednesday, July 28, at National Health
Care Center in Knoxville.
She was born Sept. 3, 1945, in Springfield, Tenn., the daughter of Robert C.
and Elsie V. (Gregory) Gregory, who both preceded her in death. On Feb. 11,
1967, she married Walter Salisbury, who survives in Knoxville.
Also surviving are three daughters, Rosanna (Michael) Henry, Sheri Leconte and
Jana (Danny) Dockins, all of Knoxville; three sisters, Stella (Dewey) Middleton
of Defiance, Linda (Rick) Heffner of Latty, and Penny (Wesley) Foust of Elida;
and seven grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a brother, Bill Gregory.
Services were held Saturday, July 31 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Paulding.

McALLEN, TEXAS Charles Chuck Ambert Thompson, 71, of McAllen,
Texas, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the Rio Grande Regional Hospital,
following an illness of three months.
He was born Feb. 18, 1933 in Van Wert County, the son of Virgil Don and Pearl
Fay (Speakman) Thompson. He played basketball for the Middle Point Polar Bears,
graduating from the high school in 1951. He served in the United States Army
in Korea during the Korean Conflict as a demolitions expert. He retired from
Sprint Inc. following 50 years of telephone associated construction, troubleshooting,
and supervision in Van Wert, Rockford and Lima.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Esther, of McAllen; three sons, Charles
Chuck (Shari) Thompson of Ft. Thomas, Ky., Mitchell Thompson of
Van Wert and Christopher (Holly) Thompson of Hilliard, Ohio; three daughters,
Lori Thompson of Columbus, Lizbeth (Mark) Good of Eliot, Maine and Laura Johnson
of Chicago; two stepsons, Randy and Michael; two stepdaughters, Denise and Debra;
15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; five great-stepgrandchildren;
and two nephews, Michael and Tim Thompson, both of Paulding.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and a brother, Robert Bob
Thompson of Paulding.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 2, at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home with the
Rev. Sharon Stonerock officiating. Burial was in the Blue Creek Cemetery in
Haviland, where military rites were conducted by combined units of the Van Wert
VFW and American Legion.

CONTINENTAL Galen A. Parrett, 86, of Continental, died at 3 p.m. Friday,
July 30, at the Putnam Acres Care Center in Ottawa.
He was born July 10, 1918, in Continental, the son of Roy and Doris (Britsch)
Parrett. On July 9, 1939, he married Marjorie L. Eastman, who preceded him in
death on April 16, 1982. He was a retired farmer.
Surviving are two sons, Charles (Jerrolyn) and Tom Parrett, both of Oakwood;
three daughters, Mary Lou (Phil) Shisler of Oakwood, Brenda (Bud) Angus of West
Liberty, Ky., and Lisa (Rick) Stennett of Harrisburg, Pa.; 13 grandchildren;
and seven great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death were a brother, Neal Parrett; and a sister, Aelean
Lambert.

JEWELL Joyce A. Copsey, 46, of Jewell, died at 11:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug.
1, at her residence.
She was born March 13, 1958, in Defiance, the daughter of Arthur W. and Norma
(Adams) Erford. On Oct. 20, 1979, she married Dan Copsey, who survives. She
was an office supervisor for Hills Department Store in Defiance. She was
a member of the Independence United Methodist Church in Defiance.
Also surviving are two sons, Nathan and Austin Copsey, at home; her mother,
Norma Erford of Oakwood; five brothers, Dennis of Defiance, Bruce and Nick of
Continental, and Jeff and Tim Erford, both of Oakwood; and two sisters, Jean
(Lewie) Hageman of Defiance and Sheila (William) Holley of Oakwood.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Aug. 4, at the Independence United Methodist

PAULDING Lee Roy Dickey, 63, of Paulding, died Monday morning, Aug. 2,
at the VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System in Fort Wayne.
He was born July 27, 1941, in Defiance, the son of Adrian and Marie (Sohn) Dickey.
He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Vietnam Conflict. He had been
employed as a mechanic at Moats Ford in Sherwood for many years and had also
been a farmer. He was a member and former commander of the Sherwood VFW Post
#5665 and a member and former Chief of the Delaware Township Fire Department.
He is survived by his mother, Marie Dickey; two daughters, Laura (Keith) Rabe
of Defiance and Deborah (Manny Esguerra) Dickey of Minneapolis, Minn.; a granddaughter;
one brother, Ernest Ernie Dickey of Cecil; and two sisters, Mary
Rosebrock and Thelma Nearing, both of Sherwood.
He was preceded in death by his father, Adrian Dickey; and a daughter, Brenda
Dickey.
Services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Burr Funeral Home
& Crematory in Sherwood, with the Rev. Ned Speiser officiating. Burial will
follow in the Sherwood Cemetery with graveside military rites by the Sherwood

Tuesday, Aug. 3, at The Laurels of Defiance.
He was born Oct. 11, 1928, in Continental, the son of Elmer F. and Doris M.
(Corkwell) Schwartzengraber, who both preceded him in death. In 1951, he married
Wanda O. Jones, who survives in Anderson, Calif. He was retired from the U.S.
Army, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He had served at Fort Ord in California
as a SGM. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in California.
Also surviving are three daughters, Kathleen Dawson of Cottonwood, Calif., Susan
M. Krueger of British Columbia, and Jeanie Dean of Las Vegas; four brothers,
Donald R. of Lebanon, Ore., James of Gomer, Ohio, and Charles and Doyle Schwartzengraber,
both of Holgate; eight sisters, Viola Sorensen of Ayersville, Betty Frees of
Radcliff, Ky., Wanda Noia of Holgate, Mary Mays of Oakwood, Carol Thrash of
Jamison, Ala., Kathy Brinkman of North Creek, Ohio, Charlene Spencer of Napoleon,
and Jeri Catto of Boise, Idaho; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was born Aug. 17, 1903, in Paulding County, the son of Marion and Edith (Lamb)
Miller. His first wife, Alma, preceded him in death. His second wife, Isabelle,
also preceded him in death. He was an employee of Pet Milk, a farmer, and a
member of Emmaus Lutheran Church, Wauseon.
Surviving are two daughters, Margaret (Martin) Zimmerman and Marilyn (Marion)
Ricker of Wauseon; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Ziegler. She was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Grover
Hill and the Ladies Aide Society of Mt. Zion. She had worked at the Paulding
Canning Factory and was retired.
Surviving are a sister, Esther Ladd of Cloverdale; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were three brothers, George, Raymond and Nelson Ziegler;
and two sisters, Margaret Roughton and Marie Wheeler.

Wednesday, Aug. 4, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 15, 1943, in Paris, Tenn., the son of Ercell and Estelle (Lawrence)
Baxter. He was a bartender at the King of Clubs in Paulding. He had also worked
for eight years at the B&O Railroad in the Hicksville office.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph (Deb) Baxter and Rodney (Kay) Baxter, both
of Paulding; a brother; and three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and two sons, Larry and Tommy.
A memorial service was held at the Paulding Eagles on Tuesday, Aug. 10. Den

ANTWERP Flossie E. Seslar, 82, of Antwerp, died at 3:35 p.m. Saturday,
Aug. 7, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born Aug. 29, 1921, in Paulding County, the daughter of Harry R. and
Hattie G. (Ours) Bissell. On Nov. 14, 1955, she married Earl Jone
Seslar, who preceded her in death on March 16, 1984. She owned and operated
the Looking Glass Beauty Shop in Woodburn, Ind. and had previously worked at
Magnavox in Fort Wayne. She was a member of the Antwerp VFW Post 5087 Auxiliary,
Royal Neighbors of America, Paulding County Democratic Committee, and Antwerp
Village Council where she served on the Antwerp Cemetery Association Board.
She later worked for the Antwerp Cemetery Association.
Surviving are a sister, Betty Bauer of Antwerp; a brother, Robert Bing
Bissell of Payne; a daughter-in-law, Ann Snider of Antwerp; four grandchildren;
and four great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was her only son, George Ron Snider
on Feb. 19, 2000.

She was born April 9, 1929, in Paulding, the daughter of Rily and Betty (Foltz)
Thomas. In 1948, she married William Buck Goyings Jr., who preceded
her in death in 1995. She was a toll collector for Sunshine Skyway Bridge in
Florida, a member of the Paulding United Methodist Church and Know Your Neighbor
Club.
Surviving are three sons, Tom (Marg) of Harlan, Ind., and Randy (Janet) and
Leon (Carol) Goyings, both of Paulding; a brother, Kenneth Thomas of Paulding;
two sisters, Louise Hanenkratt of Palmetto, Fla. and Sarah Renollet of Paulding;

at Helen St. in Paulding. She had resided there since last November.
She was born Feb. 11, 1941, near Fayette, the daughter of Vernon and Alice (Stuckey)
Aschliman, who both survive in Archbold.. She had resided in different group
homes throughout northwest Ohio.
Also surviving are three brothers, Reuben (Beverly) of Fort Collins, Colo.,
Stephen (Jan) of Nashville, Tenn., and Calvin (Sylvia) Aschliman of Chicago;
three sisters, Mary Ann (Gary) Eastty of Camus, Wash., Marlene (Dave) Bell of
Columbia City, Ind. and Joyce Aschliman of Archbold; and nieces and nephews.

County Hospital, where she had been a patient for two days.
She was born April 27, 1939, in Fort Wayne, the daughter of Ernest and Freda
(Preather) Gill. On July 20, 1962, she married Sillous A. Wilder, who survives.
She was a homemaker and attended the Rose Hill Church of God, Paulding.
Also surviving are four daughters, Tammy and Cheryl Wilder, both of Oakwood,
and Beth (Terrence) Hunter and Amy Jo (JR), both of Paulding; seven grandchildren;
one great-grandchild; a sister, Marilyn (Gaylord) Gerke, Fort Wayne; and a brother,

HURRAH, Okla. Lennie G. Fletchner, 93, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, at the Summit
Ridge Retirement Center in Hurrah, Okla.
She was born April 9, 1911, near Waurika, Okla., the daughter of Calvin and
Gertrude (Howard) Beaver. She received her R.N. degree from Oklahoma University
Hospital and was employed as an R.N. at Paulding Hospital for many years.
Surviving are a foster daughter, Mary Jane (Thrasher) Gatten of Calhoun, Ga.;
a granddaughter, Ashley Davis and a daughter-in-law, Catherine Matson of Oakwood;
and a sister, Myrtle Lovin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; a son, John W.; a grandson,
John V.; three sisters; and four brothers.

Aug. 21, at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana.
She was born June 4, 1942, in Coalgood, Ky., the daughter of Cloyd and Juanita
(Majority) Young. On Sept. 8, 1962, in Monroeville, she married Robert C. Hart,
who preceded her in death March 9, 2002. She was an EMT for Monroeville EMS,
an LPN at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne and also worked in marketing for
Shamban Seals Company of Fort Wayne.
She is survived by a son, Daryl (Floanne) Hart of Paulding; two daughters, Nancy
(Mark) Getz of Monroeville and Kathy Vardaman of Fort Wayne; a brother Wayne
E. Young of Ledbetter, Ky.; a sister, Eleanora Young of Mesa, Ariz.; and 12
grandchildren.

(Beucler) Foreman. On June 20, 1940, she married Leland A. Fisher, who preceded
her in death April 12, 1988. She was a homemaker and was a member of the First
Presbyterian Church of Antwerp, American Legion Post 253 for 59 years, and the
Antwerp VFW Post 5087 for 36 years.
Surviving are three sons, Irvin Anspach Jr. of Payne, Harl Mike
Fisher of Butler, Ind., and Vanard Fisher of Bryan; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren;
and seven great-great-grandchildren.

PAYNE James E. Shugars, 46, died at 7:38 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, at
Paulding County Hospital.
He was born June 12, 1958 in Paulding County, the son of John E. and Nancy A.
(Young) Shugars. On June 27, 1981, he married Carol Jean Agnew, who survives.
He was a graduate of Wayne Trace High School and Bowling Green State University,
and received his masters degree from the University of Toledo. He was
the principal at Anthony Wayne Elementary School in Defiance. He formerly was
employed for seven years as principal of Grover Hill Elementary, was principal
of Hicksville Elementary for one year, special education director of the Defiance
City Schools for three years, and a speech therapist for Fostoria City Schools
for seven years. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Golf League and a member
of St. Johns Catholic Church, Payne, where he served on the finance committee.
Also surviving are a son, Mathew, and a daughter, Mandy, of Payne; a brother,
William (Leslie) Shugars, of Paulding; and a sister, Nancy (Greg) White of Paulding.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

PAULDING Well-known business educator Florence Gorman, 84, died Thursday,
Aug. 26, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born June 12, 1920 in Paulding County, the daughter of James M. and
Philena (Tennis) Gorman. She taught for 30 years at Shawnee High School in Lima,
where she started their first cooperative office program in 1965. She was a
prominent educator and actively involved in American Vocational Association
and served as president of the Classroom Educators of Business and Office Education
Division, a member of Ohio Vocational Education Association, National Business
Education Association, Ohio Business Education Association, Office Education
Association and assisted in the organization in Ohio for business students,
Delta Pi Epsilon, Delta Kappa Gamma, Ohio Retired Teachers Association, Ohio
Education Association, Elks of Lima, and Paulding County Library Association.
She was a great supporter of the Ohio State University from which she graduated.
At retirement, she returned to Paulding and lived in the house in which she
was born as well as maintained the familys Century Farm. Her
family helped found the First Church of Christ in Paulding and she remained
active in the church until her death. Additionally, she worked diligently to
improve the library in Paulding for members of the community. She also was an
accomplished cook. She traveled extensively and had visited Europe and all of
the United States except Alaska.
Surviving are nieces Barbara Cole of Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Rachel Runnels
of Rogers, Ark., and Sara Knight of Eureka Springs, Ark.; nephews Dr. Jay Fitch
of Weatherby Lake, Mo., and the Rev. Michael Fitch of Stanford, Ill.; and many
great nieces and great nephews.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 30, at First Christian Church of God, Paulding.
Burial was in Cooper Cemetery. Den Herder Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

PAYNE Violet A. Bradford, 78, of Payne, died at 6:53 a.m. Tuesday, Aug.
31, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born Sept. 5, 1925, in Paulding County, the daughter of Albert and Norma
(Taylor) Tipsword. On Oct. 13, 1945, she married Edward Chuck Bradford,
who survives in Payne. She was a former manager of the Good Friends Department
Store at the former Bargain City in Defiance and attended the St. Paul United
Methodist Church in Payne.
Also surviving are a son, James (Hope) Bradford of Payne; a daughter, Vicki
(Richard) Schweizer of Green River, Wyo.; two sisters, Wanda Rohlf of Paulding
and Bonnie Arend of Florida; four grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, George Tipsword; and four sisters, Evelyn
Dangler, Alberta Carnahan, Florence Perrine and Viola Sherry.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 3, at Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Oakwood, with
Pastor Amy Haines officiating. Burial was in the Little Auglaize Cemetery in
Melrose.

ANTWERP Ruth L. Jordan, age 87, of Antwerp, died at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 1, at Dallas Lamb Foundation Home, Payne.
She was born Aug. 18, 1917, in Antwerp, the daughter of Harry H. and Neva Zoe
(Stump) Hill. On Aug. 14, 1945, she married Jim Jordan, who preceded her in
death on May 15, 1993. She worked in the laundry at Paulding County Hospital
and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Antwerp and the Royal Neighbors
of America.
Surviving are a son, Steve Jordan of Antwerp; two sisters, Helen Barker and
Betty Lichty, both of Antwerp; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Marlene Lucas, on Nov. 15, 1998.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 4 at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp, with the
Rev. Jim Edwards officiating. Burial was in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.

ITASCA, Ill. Archie Clark, 90, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, in Illinois.
He was the son of Arthur and Eva Clark, and a member of the Royal Arch Masons
of Ohio.
Surviving are six children; a stepdaughter, Anne (Dick) Bond of Payne; several
brothers and sisters; 51 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren;
and nine great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Bernice and Gladys; a daughter; a stepson,
Eddie Snellenberger; and a sister.
Services were held Monday, Aug. 30 at Oaks Funeral Home in Itasca, Ill. Burial
was Tuesday, Aug. 31 in Wiltsie Cemetery, Payne.

CONTINENTAL Carlos Soto, 49, of Continental, died at 8:52 p.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 1, in St. Ritas Ambulatory Care Center in Glandorf.
He was born April 8, 1955 in Lima, the son of Cecilio and Isabella (Seliciano)
Soto. He was an employee of Johns Manville in Defiance and a member of JMP Local
51 in Defiance.
He is survived by his fiancé, Diane Zedaker; two sons, Brian Soto of
Montpelier and Travis Soto of Continental; two daughters, Stacie Johnson of
Oakwood and Jessica Soto of Ottawa; three brothers, Pedro of North Creek, Johnny
of New Bavaria and Isreal Soto of Puerto Rico; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 4 at Heitmeyer Funeral Home in Continental
with the Rev. Greg Wack officiating. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery in Continental.

FORT WAYNE Richard R. Bidlack, 78, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2004, at the
Canterbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne.
Born in Paulding, he was a US Army Air Corps WWII veteran. He retired from International
Harvester following 25 years of service and also owned and operated Northcrest
Electronics Refrigeration. He was a member of the Van Wert VFW.
He is survived by his wife, Minota Jane Bidlack of Fort Wayne; and a sister,
Jean Cleveland of Napanee, Ind.
Services were held Saturday, Sept. 4, at D.O. McComb and sons Lakeside Park
Funeral Home. Burial was in St. Paul Cemetery in Paulding, where graveside military
rites were performed.

DESHLER Eileen I. Gillen Trutt, 75, of Deshler, formerly of Paulding,
died at 4:15 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, at the Oak Grove Healthcare of Deshler.
She was born Feb. 17, 1929, in Paulding County, the daughter of Frank R. and
Antoinette R. (Daniel) Strabele. In 1946, she married William H. Gillen, who
preceded her in death in 1981. On Feb. 14, 1984, she married James L. Trutt,
who survives. In 1999, she retired from the Findlay Ohio Board of Elections.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Deshler. She formerly
attended the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulding, where she belonged to the
Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Paulding VFW Post #587
Auxiliary and the Philamate Book Club of McComb. She was a former director of
the board of election in Paulding County.
Also surviving are three daughters, Gerry (John) Krynock of Findlay, Kerry (Steven)
Ranch of Albion, Ind. and Susie (David) Cole of Hicksville; two sons, Frank
(Annette) Gillen and Jon Gillen, both of Fort Meyers, Fla.; two stepsons, Terry
(Carol) Trutt of Tampa and Steven (Jody) Trutt of Deshler; two sisters, Rita
McGrath of Paulding and Wilma (Bill) Fry of Fort Wayne; 10 grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were four sisters, Josephine Beck, Pauline Strabele,
Rosella Price and Beatrice DeLaet.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the St. Joseph Catholic
Church in Paulding, with the Rev. G. Allan Fillman officiating. Burial will
be in the Live Oak Cemetery in Paulding.
Hours of visitation will be from 2:30-9 p.m., today, Sept. 8, at Den Herder
Funeral Home in Paulding with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. There will be calling
hours from 9-10 a.m. at the church prior to services.
There will be a memorial service at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church
of Deshler at a later date.

PAULDING Oscar F. Pieper, 75, of Paulding, died at 5:20 p.m., Friday,
Sept. 3, at the Paulding County Hospital.
He was born Aug. 2, 1929, in Allen County Indiana, the son of Carl and Elsa
(McCormick) Pieper. In 1953, he married Donna M. Goyings, who survives in Paulding.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from
the LaFarge Corporation in 1992. He was a member of the Paulding United Methodist
Church, Paulding V.F.W. Post #587, the Paulding County Amateur Ham Radio Club,
Van Wert Amateur Ham Radio Club, lifetime member of the Paulding Fish and Game
Club, local amateur radio emergency coordinator for Paulding County, owner of
Piepers Gun Shop and a licensed gunsmith, long time firearms safety trap
shooting and hunter instructor, coach of the former Reinhart Chevrolet pee-wee
baseball championship team, and a Paulding pee-wee and little league baseball
coach for many years.
Also surviving are three sons, Fred and Jeff (Ann) Pieper, both of Paulding
and Tim (Rae Ann) Pieper of Cecil; two brothers, Wilbert and Melvin Pieper,
both of Fort Wayne; four sisters, Ruth Ann Hootman of Auburn, Ind., Lucille
Smithhart of Woodburn, Marcella Harrison of Wisc., and Evelyn James of Payne;
six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Norbert and Raymond Pieper; and a
sister, Dorothy Sailor.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., today, Sept. 8, at the Den Herder Funeral
Home in Paulding, with the Rev. Jack Berry officiating, with calling hours one
hour prior to services. Burial will be in Live Oak Cemetery, with the Paulding

ANTWERP Irma E. Doctor, 85, of Antwerp, died at 7:10 p.m., Thursday,
Sept. 2, at Hickory Creek Nursing Home in Hicksville.
She was born May 22, 1919, in Delphos, the daughter of William B. and Dora E.
(Overmeyer) Matzen. She married Nathan Doctor in 1938, who preceded her in death
in 1968. She was a homemaker, and a member of the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church
in Antwerp and the O.K. Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol Ann Smith of Logansport, Ohio and Mary Ellen
Pieffer of Virginia Beach, Va.; two sons, Nathan Doctor of Antwerp and George
Doctor of Fort Wayne; three sisters, Valeria Beacom of Celina, Marylene Taylor
of Antwerp, and Ethel Nobel of Boston, Mass.; a brother, Carl Matzen of Lima,
Ohio; 11 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

PAULDING Mary E. Hartwig, 78, died at 3:35 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at
the Hawthorn Court Nursing Home in Paulding.
She was born April 6, 1926 in Paulding County, the daughter of Erna M. and Lula
R. (Smith) Doster. On April 24, 1945 she married James Richard Hartwig, who
died May 8, 1976.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Briceton, where she belonged
to the ELCA Lutheran Women Association. She was a member of the Paulding County
Hospital Auxiliary. She was a 4-H leader for the Latty Homemakers and Gents
club. She was a former chairman for the Paulding County Crippled Childrens
Association and a former chairman for the Paulding County Heart Association.
She was a member of the Wednesday PM Bowling League and the Paulding County
Womens Bowling Association, John Paulding Historical Society, Monday Bunnies
Card Club, Bunco Club of Paulding and Lutheran Brotherhood.
Surviving are three daughters, Lula May (Rex) Ankney of Paulding, Linda (Leonard)
Windom of Maumee and Laura (Tom) Hixon of Perrysburg; one son, James (Hope)
Hartwig of Payne; one brother, Arthur Doster of Scott; two sisters, Methel Densmore
of Melrose and Ethel Sutton of Toledo; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; and three brothers, Lawrence,

PHOENIX, Ariz. Word has been received of the death of M. June Morgan
on Aug. 21 at Sun Health Hospice in Peoria, Ariz.
She was born Oct. 31, 1927, in Paulding, the daughter of Howard and Goldie Mobley.
In 1948, she married G. Edward Morgan, who survives. After moving to Arizona,
she was co-owner and office manager of United Sales Company, a food service
brokerage company. She retired in 1984.
Also surviving are a son, Donald (Marylou) Morgan of Mesa; a daughter, Grace
Ann (Richard) Holt of West Linn, Ore.; two grandsons; four sisters, Norma Wellman
of Tucson, Shirley Buell of Peoria, Joann Jones and Susan Centers; and four
brothers, Howard, Richard, Nolan and Jerry Mobley, all from Ohio.
Preceding her in death were her parents; four sisters, Betty Brown, LaDonna
Wellman, Jean Fuller and Carol Wilson; and two brothers, Raymond and Larry.

PAYNE Leslie R. Rau Sr., 71, died at 1:20 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at
the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Fort Wayne.
He was born Dec. 31, 1932, in Payne, the son of Carl W. and Velma (Compton)
Rau. On Aug. 6, 1960, he married Margaret V. Szabo, who survives in Payne. He
was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict. He retired from
Sims Cab in 1998, following 27 years of service. He was a custodian for St.
John the Baptist Catholic Church, a lifetime member of the Disabled American
Veterans, and an avid saddle horseman, having had the champion pinto in the
1965 Tri State Pinto Show.
Also surviving are two sons, Leslie R. (Diana) Rau Jr. of Seven Hills, Ohio
and William (Tracy) Rau of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Ardis (Robert) Smith of Woodburn;
two sisters, Dorothy (Tom) Andrews of Fort Wayne and Norma Jean Rau of Van Wert;
and four grandchildren.

DELPHOS Mary E. Teman, 105, of Delphos, died at 5:10 a.m., Monday, Sept.
13, at the Van Crest Health Care Center in Delphos.
She was born Oct. 25, 1898 in Latty Township, Paulding County, near Grover Hill,
the daughter of Benjamin F. and Nancy Jane (Newland) Goings. On June 26, 1915,
she married Benjamin G. Teman, who preceded her in death on Feb. 27, 1975. She
was a homemaker, and a member of the Delphos American Legion Auxiliary, Pythian
Sisters past member, attended the Eaton School in Grover Hill, and a member
of the Delphos Wesleyan Church.
Surviving are three sons, Bernard, William, and Winfred Teman, all of Delphos;
a daughter, Virginia McKee of Delphos; 25 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren;
40 great great grandchildren; and 11 great great great grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three brothers; six sisters; two sons, Cleo
and Eugene Teman; a daughter, Ruth M. Ulm; a son-in-law, Paul McKee; a daughter-in-law,

Surviving are her mother, Marvel, who resides at Van Crest in Van Wert; a daughter,

PAULDING Mary Louise Hanenkratt, 77, died 2 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15,
at the Dallas Lamb Foundation Home in Payne, where she was a resident.
She was born Oct. 3, 1926, in Detroit, the daughter of Robert and Erma (Buyek)
Vandenbrouche. On May 11, 1947, she married Ralph Bud Hanenkratt,
who survives. She was a homemaker and a cafeteria aid for the Paulding Elementary
School for 15 years. She attended the former Immaculate Conception Catholic
Church in Cecil.
Also surviving are a daughter, Karen Vance of Paulding; four sons, Michael (Barbara)
of Tampa, Fla., David (Marcia) of Bryan, Cress of New Haven, Ind., and Kevin
(Beverly) Hanenkratt of Paulding; a sister, Emily (Ronald) Guingrich of Leo,
Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madeline Sprow in 2003, and an infant
sister, Rachel.

SHERWOOD Rae Louise Harp, 89, of Sherwood, died Wednesday, Sept. 15,
at Harborside Healthcare in Defiance.
She was born June 28, 1915, in Hartford, Ind., the daughter of Charles and Norine
(Chapman) Randall. She was a graduate of Payne High School. On June 2, 1934,
she married Homer Harp, who preceded her in death. She had worked as a newspaper
reporter for the Sherwood Chronicle, and at G.M., National Ideal of Hicksville
and Hoyts Hardware Store of Defiance. She was a member of the Sherwood
United Methodist Church, Defiance Genealogy Club and the Ohio Genealogical Society.
She is survived by a son, John (Juanita) Harp of Oakwood; two daughters, Ann
(Sam) DeRossett of Sherwood and Jeanette (Roger) Shock of Defiance; 10 grandchildren;
and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a grandson and a stepgranddaughter. Services

Leland Donald Wagner, 77, of Avon Park, Fla., died on Aug. 15.
He was born Nov. 7, 1926, the son of Lewis and Evelyne (Kilpatrick) Wagner.
He was a truck driver for 45 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; three sons, Leland Jr., Philip and Doug; a
daughter, Helen; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

ANTWERP Linus A. Tempel, 87, of Antwerp, died at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept.
14, at his residence.
He was born March 18, 1917, in Paulding, the son of the late Albert J. and Olive
A. (Schmidt) Tempel. He worked as a carpenter and had bartended at Five Points
Cafe in Fort Wayne. He was a member of St. Caspars Catholic Church, Rome
City, Ind., the Angola Knights of Columbus and he enjoyed golfing, fishing and
bowling.
Surviving are four daughters, Beverly Rex and DoRetta Cline of Antwerp, Dorinda
Jarrell of Leesville, La., and Marlene Tempel of Espyville, Pa.; two sons, David
of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Kevin of Churubusco, Ind.; a sister, Loretta DiNofia
of Wildwood, N.J.; 19 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

FORT WAYNE Doris G. Smith, 85, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004 at Covington
Manor Nursing Center.
She was born in Sedan, Mo. She was a bookkeeper with Phlipots Inc. in
Paulding for over 25 years and was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, John
Paulding Historical Society and Paulding County Hospital Auxiliary.
Survivors include one daughter, Janice Ragan of Fort Wayne; a son, Bill Smith
of Saudi Arabia; seven grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Chloe Elefson of Independence, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Smith; and one brother.

NAPOLEON Danny John Shrider, 35, died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21,
at the Filling Memorial Home of Mercy in Napoleon.
He was born Jan. 3, 1969, in Hammond, Ind., the son of Jerry L. and Mary Ann
(Miller) Shrider.
Surviving are his father and stepmother, Jerry and Charlene Shrider of Cecil;
a brother, Steve Shrider of Greenfield, Ind.; a stepbrother, Brian Bower of
Cecil; a grandmother, Kathryn Shrider of Paulding; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Shrider; and grandparents,
William Shrider and M.H. and Mildred Miller.

PAULDING Kenneth M. Stoller, 79, of Paulding, died at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday,
Sept. 21, at the Hawthorn Court Nursing Home in Paulding.
He was born July 2, 1925 in Paulding, the son of Michael G. and Magdalena (Manz)
Stoller. On Dec. 5, 1954, he married Esther Kipfer, who survives in Paulding.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a self-employed seed
salesman, a former Hicksville resident where he was a school bus driver for
the Hicksville Exempted Schools, and a greeter at the Meijers store in Fort
Wayne. He was a member of the Latty Apostolic Church in Latty, and was a member
of the Paulding EMS for 30 years.
Also surviving are a daughter, Sally J. Stoller of Paulding; two brothers, Ellsworth
Stoller of Louisiana and Jethro (Jeanne) Stoller of Van Wert; four sisters,
Katherine Oesch of Shelby, Ohio, and Ann Plummer, Delores (Harlan) Riggenbach
and Josephine Stoller, all of Paulding.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 24, at the Latty Apostolic Christian Church.
Burial was in the Latty Apostolic Church Cemetery with military graveside services.

OTTOVILLE Jimmy Leroy Williamson, 55, of Ottoville, died at 2:40 p.m.
Tuesday, Sept. 21, at St. Ritas Medical Center in Lima.
He was born Nov. 16, 1948 in Van Wert, the son of Delbert L. and Virginia (Anderson)
Williamson. A 1968 graduate of Van Wert High School, he served in the U.S. Army
for four years, 18 months of which he served in Vietnam. He was a material handler
at Teleflex Inc., retiring after 20 years of service. He was a former member
of the Ottoville VFW.
Surviving are his mother, of Van Wert; a daughter, Sonya, of Ottoville; a sister,
Nancy (Doyle) Whitaker of Scott; an uncle, Wilbur (Lois) Williamson of Cavett;
a special friend, Kathy Wood of Ostrander; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Memorial services will be held at a later date. Cowan & Son Funeral Home
in Van Wert is in charge of arrangements.

ANTWERP Julie A. Rachel, 40, of Antwerp, died at 6:39 a.m. Monday, Sept.
20, as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident at U.S. 24
and Indiana 101, Woodburn, Allen County, Ind.
She was born Dec. 4, 1963, in Decatur, Ind., the daughter of John and Patricia
(Velez) Hartman. On April 27, 1989, she married Louis Rachel, who survives.
She was employed as an assembler at Parker Hannifin in New Haven, and was attending
classes at the University of Saint Francis, Fort Wayne. She was a member of
the Paulding Fish & Game Club.
Also surviving are her parents; a daughter, Jessica, at home; a son, Louis,
at home; a sister, Tina Hartman of Antwerp; and a brother, John Hartman Jr.
of Hicksville.
Services were held Friday, Sept. 24 at Dooley Funeral Home in Antwerp, with
Deacon Robert Nighswander officiating. Burial was in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.

DEFIANCE Alice K. Robnolte, 77, of Defiance, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday,
Sept. 22, at the Toledo Hospital.
She was born Aug. 31, 1927, in Paulding County, the daughter of Arley Barley
and Ara (Hitchcock) Rickner. In 1947, she married William Robnolte, who preceded
her in death in 2000. She was a secretary at Defiance College, retiring in 1997,
had worked for Strait Realty and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Melissa Allen of Holgate; two sisters, Janet Heigel
of Van Wert and Caroline (Mike) Shalter of Columbus; a brother, Ramon Ricker
of Van Wert; and two grandchildren.

She was born May 13, 1936, in Vaughnsville, Ohio, the daughter of Cornelius
and Blanche (Myers) Fortman. On May 7, 1955, she married Harold A. Donaldson,
who survives in Continental. She was a homemaker and a member of the Ottawa
VFW Auxiliary.
Also surviving are four sons, Rick (Sandra) and Larry (Karen) both of Continental,
Steven E. of Paulding, and Harold (Susan) Donaldson of Bradenton, Fla.; two
daughters, Marilyn M. (Greg) Simon of Continental, and Michelle R. (Chip) Baker
of Defiance; two brothers, Cornelius Fortman of Lancaster, Calif., and George
Fortman of Defiance; six sisters, Hazel (Wilbur) Schneider of Wapakoneta, Agnes
(Arden) Fjelsted of Lancaster, Calif., Frances (Glenn) Remington of St. Charles,
Mo., Marjorie (Tony) Feliciano of Anaheim, Calif., Joyce (Virgil) Beam of Wapakoneta,
and Nancy Alt of Ottawa; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Sept. 25, at the Brookview Healthcare Center in Defiance.
She was born July 8, 1918, in Peebles, Ohio, the daughter of John Raymond and
Mattie (Shoemaker) Eakins. On Oct. 3, 1936, she married Glen W. Spencer, who
preceded her in death in 2002. She was a member of the Oakwood United Methodist
Church and had supported her husband in many business ventures. She co-owned
and operated the former Spencers Restaurant, near Oakwood.
Surviving are a daughter, Judy A. Hornschemeir, Oakwood; a son, Nick (Victoria)
Spencer, Oakwood; four sisters, Beatrice Walkinshaw of Arkansas, Thelma Iler
of Paulding, and Marjorie Sickmiller and Betty Tanner, both of Oakwood; nine
grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; six great-stepgrandchildren; five great-great-stepgrandchildren;
and nieces and nephews and many friends.
Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Bonita Spencer Carnahan; two brothers,

DEFIANCE Joshua A. Banks, 23, of Defiance, died Thursday, Sept. 23, at
his residence.
He was born April 2, 1981, in Stockbridge, Ga., the son of James and Julia (Amanns)
Banks. He served in the U.S. Army from 1999-2001. In 2001, he married Lexie
Krumel, who survives in Payne. He worked for Innovative Support Services in
the field of home healthcare.
Also surviving are his parents, of Defiance; a daughter, Kyren, of Payne; a
son, Kalic, of Payne; a brother, Joel Banks of Aurora, Colo.; and two sisters,
Joy (Charles) Sarsfield of Antwerp and Jill (Craig) Walters of Stockbridge,
Ga.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Julia Amanns and Jasper
and Helen Banks.

CONVOY Helen Fay Miller, 93, formerly of Convoy, died at 1:40 a.m. Saturday,
Sept. 25, in the Otterbein-St. Marys Retirement Home in St. Marys.
She was born April 10, 1911, in Carlock, Ill., the daughter of Emanuel and Rosina
(Schultz) Guingrich. She married Roy A. Sinn on Jan. 1, 1930 and he preceded
her in death on Jan. 11, 1970. She married Van Miller on Sept. 2, 1972, and
he preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1991. She grew up in Carlock, Ill. and Latty,
Ohio. She was a partner in the business of the Tipton Grocery store in Tipton,
farming, a farm implement store, and several laundromats. She was a member of
the grange and the Convoy United Methodist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy (William) McOmber of St. Marys, Nancy
(Dan) May of Hanover, Mich. and Karen Bayer of Sun City Center, Fla.; two stepdaughters,
Janet (Ralph) Gibson of Auburn, Ind. and June (Art) Krauss of Hoagland, Ind.;
a stepson, Norman (Arline) Miller of Convoy; a brother, Robert Guingrich of
Fort Wayne; a sister, Lucille Laukhuf Shealey of Payne; 13 grandchildren; 19
great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and numerous stepgrandchildren;
great grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren.

PAULDING Willie Pack Sr., 84, died at 7:13 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at
the Van Wert Manor Nursing Home, where he had been a resident for three years.
He was born March 28, 1920, in Paintsville, Ky., the son of Walter and Jane
(Crisp) Pack. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in WWII, where he received
two Purple Hearts. He was a member of the D.A.V. Chapter #36 of Defiance.
He is survived by three sons, Willie (Kitty) Pack Jr. of Paulding, Carl (Kay)
Pack of Ohio City, and Garry (Janice)) Pack of Paulding; two brothers, Earl
Pack of Reading, Pa. and Russell Pack of Emmett, Idaho; three sisters, Marie
Crawford of Atlanta, Pauline Dunham Adkins of Paulding, and Shuba Daniels of
Broughton; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lee Pack; and a sister, Anna Grimes.

PAYNE Francis Frank John Shea, 78, died Friday, Sept. 3,
in Denver, Colo.
He was born Dec. 21, 1925, the son of William J. and Katherine (Dwyer) Shea.
He was previously married to Marilyn Mulholland Shea, who was a granddaughter
of the late O.F. Brady. He was a veteran of WWII, where he received the Purple
Heart and the Bronze Star.
Surviving are three daughters, Tracy (Mark) Poepping, Kathy (James) Armento
and Kelly (John) Hargaden; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Brady Francis Shea, in 1980.

the Laurels of Defiance.
She was born April 12, 1937, in Waynesboro, Tenn., the daughter of John and
Tinnie Viola (Gamble) Caperton. On Dec. 16, 1960 she married Richard L. Dick
Carr, who survives. She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing and gardening with
her husband.
Also surviving are three daughters, Rose Gaskill of Decatur, Ind., Sue Carr
of Paulding and Betty Meyer of Antwerp; three sons, Jerry Caperton of Cincinnati,
Stan Carr of Cecil and Larry Carr of Antwerp; nine sisters, Beatrice Evans,
Lillis Staggs, Evelayn Gobble, all of Tennessee, Inava Moore, Emma Caperton
and Joyce Dunham, all of Hicksville, Helen Hartman and Sharon Clark of Montpelier,

PAULDING David L. Bradford, 62, of Paulding, died at 3:06 a.m. Sunday,
Oct. 3, at his residence, following an extended illness.
He was born June 6, 1942, in Continental, the son of Bert L. and Helen M. (Hutching)
Bradford. On June 7, 1969, he married Sharon L. AuFrance, who survives in Paulding.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, and retired from G.M. Powertrain following 28 years
of service. He was the owner/operator of Bradford Construction Company, and
a member of the Continental American Legion Post #541, 40&8 American Legion,
Continental.
Also surviving are a son, Lee Bradford of Detroit; a daughter, Kathy (John)
Roberts of Grand Rapids, Ohio; a brother, George (Margaret) Bradford of Defiance;
and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

He was born June 3, 1906, in Lawrence County Ala., the son of William and Sally
(Hetson) Hale. On Feb. 21, 1930, he married Julia Evans, who preceded him in
death in 2001. He retired from the Grizzly Manufacturing Company in Paulding
in 1971. He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Junction.
Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth (Bruce) Hart of Dallas; two sons, Joe and
J.D. Hale, both of Paulding; a brother, James Hale of Moulton, Ala.; and several
grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

1996. He was employed at Trident and Cook Refuse.

PAULDING Charles E. Fillman, 84, died at 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 5, at
Hawthorn Court Nursing Home.
He was born July 7, 1920, in Defiance, the son of Grover and Lula Mae (Teleschaw)
Fillman. On Jan. 27, 1950, he married Ramona Holtsberry, who survives. He was
a U.S. Army WWII veteran, a member of the Paulding United Methodist Church,
a lifetime member of the Oakwood American Legion, served on the Paulding County
Mental Health Board, and worked for the Paulding County Senior Center Meals
on Wheels.
Also surviving are a daughter, Wanda (Michael) Van Scoder of Defiance; a son,
Charles Fillman Jr. of Middletown, Ohio; a brother, William (Monica) Fillman
of Defiance; three sisters, Wilma (Al) Molnar of Defiance, Merele Volkert of
Sherwood and Betty (Leslie) Wendell of Ocklawaha, Fla.; five grandchildren;
and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by and infant brother, James.

OAKWOOD Ruth D. Dangler, 91, a long-time Oakwood resident, died at 9:45
p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the Paradise Oaks Nursing Home in Cloverdale.
She was born Oct. 11, 1912, in Defiance, the daughter of Olen and Clara (Bohn)
Hasch. In 1932, she married Kenneth M. Dangler, who preceded her in death in
1975. She was a housewife, a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church
in Oakwood, a former council member, a district delegate at the church, and
a member of the W.S.C.S.
Surviving are a daughter, R. Jeanneane Helsel of Hicksville; three sons, Klee
(Carolyn) Dangler of Cecil, David (Cindy) Dangler of Cloverdale, and Garrett
Dangler of New York City; a brother, Harold (Nova) Hasch of Cecil; 10 grandchildren;
25 great grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were an infant daughter; and a granddaughter, Danette
Alvarado.

Services and a member of the First Christian Church in Paulding.

She was born Aug. 8, 1909, in Paulding County, the daughter of Franklin and
Iva (Burt) Wable. On Dec. 31, 1937, she married Asa Switzer, who preceded her
in death on Nov. 1, 1956. She was a cook at the Melrose school for several years
and was retired. She was a member of the Melrose United Methodist church, the
UMW, and the Melrose Garden Club.
Surviving are a son, Robert Switzer of Melrose; four grandchildren; and nine
great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were four sisters, Vernelle Weller, Arlene Densmore,
Gazel Merkler, and Marie Shultz; a brother, Franklin Wable; and three infant

She was born Dec. 22, 1931, in Grover Hill, the daughter of Ira and Maude (Gleckler)
Mohr. On May 1, 1952, she married Howard Brown, who survives in Oakwood. She
was employed by the Campbells Soup Company, retiring in 1992, following 24 years
of service. She was a member of the Dupont Church of the Brethren in Dupont
and a member of the Ladies Fellowship of the church.
Also surviving are a son, Mike (Vicki) Brown of Grover Hill; two daughters,
Dawn Brown of Oakwood and Karmel Prosser of Continental; a brother, Dean (Phyllis)
Mohr of Oakwood; 10 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

Oct. 17 at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance.
She was born Sept. 30, 1927 in Antwerp, the daughter of the Clyde and Frances
(Clemmer) Quaintance. On March 27, 1954, she married John R. Haynes, who survives.
She worked at several different area restaurants and was a member of the Antwerp
VFW Auxiliary.
Also surviving are a daughter, Rena Blair of Cecil; a son, Dennie McNabb of
Antwerp; three sisters, Clarabelle Banks and Bertie Zuber of Antwerp, and Dorothy
Roth of Grabill, Ind.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Terry McNabb; a sister, Mabel

AMHERST Maebelle Johnson Musselman, 91, of Amherst, died Monday, Oct.
11, in the Anchor Lodge Retirement Village in Lorain, following a two-year illness.
She was born Jan. 13, 1913 in Paulding, and resided in Amherst since moving
from Vermilion in 1979. She was a place packer for the South Shore Packing company
in Vermilion, retiring in 1973 following 25 years of service. She had been an
active volunteer at Amherst Hospital and the Sandstone Office of Aging. She
was a member of the Presbyterian Church while residing in Paulding and a member
of the Amherst Congregational Church of Christ since 1979.
Surviving is a niece, Ramona Shaffer of Paulding.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ensel W. in 1984; three brothers;
and four sisters.
Graveside services were held Friday, Oct. 15, at the Rochester Cemetery in Crane
Township, Paulding County. Garland-Misencik Funeral Home was in charge of the

She was born Nov. 30, 1903 in Timonsville, S.C., the daughter of James and Lara
(Whitehead) Langston. In 1957, she married Charles Fox Dewitt Hyman,
who preceded her in death in 1988. She was a teacher for 22 years in South Carolina
schools.
Surviving are a sister, Jewell Bale of Defiance; and nieces and nephews.

DEFIANCE Betty Mae Cook, 53, of Defiance, died at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday,
Oct. 19, at the St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo.
She was born Jan. 6, 1951, in Napoleon, the daughter of Robert and Mildred (Thayer)
Eberle, who both preceded her in death. On April 21, 1979, she married Joseph
C. Cook, who survives. She was a registered nurse at the Community Healthcare
Professionals Visiting Nurses/Hospice. She was a member of the St. John United
Church of Christ and active with the United Way.
Also surviving are a daughter, Jennifer (Shane) Schomburg of Ada; two sons,
Joshua and Jameson Cook, both at home; four sisters, Diane Grimes of Ney, Connie
Eberle of Toledo, Karen Heckler of Napoleon, and Robin Mansfield of Holgate;
two brothers, Robert Eberle Jr. of Florida, Ohio and Ronald Eberle of Holgate;
and two grandchildren.

HICKSVILLE Ethel May Shreve, 88, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Hickory
Creek Nursing Home in Hicksville.
She was born Dec. 18, 1915, in Woodburn, Ind., the daughter of Ray T. and Frances
(Carpenter) Leever. She graduated from Defiance High School in 1933. In 1936,
she married Calvin Ted Shreve, who preceded her in death in 1972.
She was in the Grounds Observer Corps in WWII. She also was a housewife, co-manager
of Co-op Grocery in Brunersburg, and co-owner of Shreve Grocery in Brunersburg.
In Defiance, she was a cook for Gustavion Restaurant, Black Lantern, Defiance
Hospital, and the head chef at the Kettering Country Club, retiring in 1986.
She was also the quilting room manager under the Green Thumb Program until 1988.
She was a 4-H adviser for 20 years, a member of Grace United Methodist Church
in Hicksville and a prior member of the St. Pauls United Methodist Church
in Defiance.
Surviving are a stepson, Ted (Juanita) Shreve of Defiance; a stepdaughter, Ethel
(Clifford) Keck-Jones of Paulding; a son, David Shreve of Oregon; three daughters,
Joanne (Ervin) Wendt, Janice (Heinz) Eppelmann and Ellen (Lee) Leeper, all of
Hicksville; two brothers, Rodger (Carol) Leever of California and Ralph Leever
of Florida; a sister, Margaret (Bob) Cooper of Florida; 17 grandchildren; six
stepgrandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 16 great-stepgrandchildren; four
great-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-stepgrandchild.

Williamson. In 1980, he married Viola Wright, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Kevin Dunakin of Ayersville; four stepchildren, Jacquline
Summerfield of Fort Wayne, Amanda Lawrence and Mike Wright, both of Paulding,
and Romeroal Lawrence of Defiance; two brothers, James of Green-up, Ky. and

He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde Williamson; his mother, Marie

PAULDING Carl Lawson, 80, died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at the
Laurels of Defiance, where he was a resident.
He was born Feb. 14, 1924 in Wise County, Va., the son of John H. and Nellie
(Dingus) Lawson. In 1946, he married Oma Fleenor, who preceded him in death
in 1986. In 1992, he married Alice M. (Thomas) Good, who survives. He was a
veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. In 1985, he retired from
S.K. Wayne Tool of Defiance, where he was a tool polisher. He had been a coal
cutting machine operator for Glenbrook Coal Co. He attended Paulding United
Methodist Church and also First Church of Christ of Defiance. He was a member
of American Legion Post 541 of Continental and was a life member of the VFW
of Big Stone Gap, Va.
Also surviving are a son, Wayne (Vicky) Lawson of Defiance; a daughter, Shelia
(Pastor Terry) Porter of Paulding; three stepsons, James (Laura) Good of Defiance,
Greg (Jody) Good of Paulding and Scott (Tina) Good of Albuquerque; a brother,
Richard Lawson of Fayetteville, N.C.; four sisters, Ann (Isaac) Cooper and Mary
Ellen (Jack) Davis, both of Valparaiso, Ind., Faye (Jesse) Townsend of Conway,
Ark., and Mabel Cooper of Defiance; 13 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren;
and 17 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by three brothers, Ballard, George and Lawrence;

She was born April 3, 1928 in Henry County, the daughter of John H. and Amelia
(Baden) Tadsen. On March 11, 1949, she married John Jack McDonald,
who preceded her in death on May 6, 1991. She was a homemaker and retired from
Dana-Weatherhead in Antwerp in 1990. She attended St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran
Church in Paulding.
Surviving are three daughters, Jacquelyn (Richard) Johanns of Paulding, Amy
(Bill) Kochenour of Oakwood, and Toni Arnett of Grover Hill; two brothers, Donald
Tadsen of Woodland, Ga., and Bill Tadsen of Reading, Mich.; 12 grandchildren;
and 16 great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Steve Mac
in 2004; two brothers, Luther and Vern Tadsen; and three sisters, Leona Frank,

CECIL Irvin Eugene Burns, 83, of Cecil, died Friday, Oct. 22 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 22, 1921 in Auburn, Ind., the son of John Henry and Lillie
Mae (Shepard) Burns. He served in WWII as a lineman in the 30th Div. of the
U.S. Army. He received five Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. He retired as an
electrician for the U.S. government in the Federal Redevelopment Land Agency.
He was a lifetime member of the DAV Chapter 36 and a member of the former Church
of Christ in Sherwood.
Surviving are two daughters, Debra Rinebolt of Cecil and Lu Ann (David) Rosebrock
of Sherwood; a brother, William Red (Ginny) Burns of St. Joe, Ind.;
four granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and five great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Virgil Burns and Vernon Wyatt; and
three sisters, Naomi Shook, Lucille Wyatt and Irene Welch.
Services were held Monday, Oct. 25 at Burr Funeral Home and Crematory in Sherwood

DEFIANCE Junnie Ray Schmidt, 84, died at 3:37 p.m., Monday, Oct. 25 at
the Defiance Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 6, 1920 in Fairbanks, Wis., the son of Frederick W. and Annetta
S. (Nero) Schmidt. On February 23, 1946 he married Dorothy Alice Squibb who
died May 28, 1991. In 1992, he married Armella Killion, who survives. In 1983,
he retired from Parsons Market of Paulding, where he was the meat manager
for 25 years. He was a veteran of the 5th U.S. Army Air Force serving in the
South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of the Paulding V.F.W. Post
#587 and a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church of Paulding.
Surviving are his wife, Armella Schmidt, Defiance; Three sons, Ron (Rita) Schmidt,
Paulding, Jeff (Bernie) Schmidt, Defiance, and Fred (Sheree) Schmidt, Archbold;
Three step-sons, Allen (Nancy) Killion, Joseph (Patricia) Killion and Matthew
(Cindy) Killion, all of Defiance; one sister, Helen Krueger, Marion, Wis.; three
brothers, Roy Schmidt, Marion, Wis., Raymond Schmidt, Split Rock, Wis., and
Alvin Schmidt of Winona, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; two great- grandchildren;

at Spector Freight for 28 years.
She is survived by a sister, Martha Strahley of Paulding.

(Lloyd) Colgan. In 1932, she married Cecil Mansfield, who preceded her in death
in 1983. She was an elementary teacher at Defiance Township and Ayersville Local
schools. She was a member of Bethel Christian Church, Thirteen Club and Ohio
Teachers Association.
Surviving are a son, Norvin of Cincinnati; two daughters, Linda (Harold) Walters
of Leesburg, Fla. and Karen (Thomas) Culler of Auburn, Ind.; a sister, Helen
(Ormal) Wickerham of Defiance; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren;

She was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Dupont, the daughter of Cloyce and Elizabeth
(Fruchey) Vance. On Sept. 27, 1937, in Paulding, she married Orville P. Riley,
who survives. She was a cook for the Paulding Elementary Exempted Village Schools
for 20 years and had also worked at the former Stokelys tomato factory
in Paulding for six years. She was a member of the First Christian Church in
Paulding, the John Paulding Historical Society and the Blue Creek Grange.
Also surviving are a son, Darwin (Ursula) Riley of Paulding; two daughters,
Karen (Delmar) Schwab of Payne and Marlene (John) Stoller of Everett, Wash.;
a brother, Darryl Vance of Paulding; two sisters, Donna (Myron) Thornell of

Boggs. On June 27, 1957, in Pound, Va., he married Reta M. Potter, who survives.
He was a truck driver for Schwerman Trucking of Paulding and retired in 1994
following 28 years of service.

of West Unity; two daughters, Sheila (Tracy) Voirol of Sherwood and Lisa (Mark

Belle (Summerland) Johnston. On March 29, 1941, she married Paul R. Brecht,
who preceded her in death July 29, 1989. She was a homemaker and a member of
the Free Christian Church of God in Continental.
Surviving are four sons, John R. (Linda) and Dennis L. (Donna) Brecht of Continental,
and Kenneth A. (Jill) and William P., both of North Creek; a sister, Ila Mae
King of Defiance; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

of Clarence Emery and Almeda Amelia Elizabeth (Hoffer) Baker. On Dec. 25, 1945,
she married Lester Sealscott, who preceded her in death Sept. 3, 1996. She was
a homemaker and attended the Mt. Pleasant Church and Trinity Friends Church
and the Wednesday morning prayer group at Trinity, all in Van Wert.
Surviving are two sons, Gary (Lisa) Sealscott of Defiance and Dana (Lori) Sealscott
of Van Wert; a daughter, Joyce (Larry) Lynch of Van Wert; a sister, Irene Ringwald

Hasch. He was a WWII Army veteran, retired as a foreman at L.E. Smith Company
in Bryan and was a former cabinet maker. He was a member of the VFW, Moose Lodge,
Eagles, Masonic Lodge, and the First Lutheran Church, all in Bryan. He was also
a member of the Zenobia Shriners of Toledo.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Hasch of Sherwood and Dan (Dawn) Hasch of Hicksville;
a daughter, Donna (Charles) Karacson of Hicksville; seven grandchildren; and
a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death earlier this year by his wife, Elda (Rosebrock) Hasch.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at Burr Funeral Home and Crematory
in Sherwood, with Pastor Richard Franks officiating. Burial will be in the Sherwood
Cemetery.
Hours of visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today, Nov. 3, at the
funeral home.

BRITTON, Mich. Former Fayette resident Emelia L. Carothers, 94, of Britton,
Mich., died Monday, Nov. 1, in Herrick Manor in Tecumseh.
She was born Nov. 8, 1909, in Cecil, the daughter of Henry (H.C.F.) and Julia
(Meyer) Meyer. In 1932, she married Ernest Carothers, who preceded her in death
in 1990. She was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Burlington and
its Ladies Society.
Surviving are a daughter, Eileen (Wesley) Gilmore of Britton; two sisters, Luella
Norden of Ridgeville Corners and Leona Hogrefe of Okolona; a brother, Donald
Meyer of Sun City, Fla.; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were a son, Alvin; three sisters, Emma Price, Helen
Fay and Ruth Meyer; three brothers, Albert, Edward and Richard Meyer; infant
twin grandsons; and a great-grandson.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 5, at the St. James Lutheran Church in Burlington,
with Pastor James Strawn and James Balzer officiating. Burial was in the church
cemetery. Short Funeral Home in Archbold was in charge of the arrangements.

HAVILAND Lillian Anna Eisenmann, 82, of rural Haviland, died at 11:52
a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, at St. Ritas Medical Center in Lima.
She was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Paulding County, the daughter of Emil and Anna
(Laukhauf) Stoller. On Dec. 2, 1962, she married William Henry Eisenmann, who
preceded her in death Feb. 17, 1989. She was a member of the Latty Apostolic
Christian Church, and a bookkeeper and office manager for the former Equity
Grain and Feed of Paulding.
Surviving are a son, Roger (Linda) Eisenmann of Decatur, Ind.; a brother, Melvin
(Irene) Stoller of Haviland; six sisters, Elizabeth Waters and Marie (Jack)
Moore, both of Paulding, Eunice (Roger) Gerber of Payne, Lorine (Myron) Hackenjos
of New Haven, Nathalia (Allan) Getz of Eureka, Ill. and Anna Lou (Earl) Grimm
of Dunlap, Ill.; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death were three sons, William in infancy, and Gary and
Ronald Eisenmann; and a brother, Millard Stoller.
Services were held Friday, Nov. 5, at the Latty Apostolic Christian Church with
the church clergymen officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Den Herder
Funeral Home in Paulding was in charge of the arrangements.

DEFIANCE Daeveon N. Graves, 2 months, died Friday, Nov. 5, at the Defiance
Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 17, 2004, in Defiance, the son of Antonio Taylor and Pamela
Wright, who survive.
Also surviving are four brothers, Calvin Perry and Kavozio, Javontae and Sevontre
Graves, all of Defiance; two half-brothers and a half-sister of Oklahoma; grandparents
Michael Wright of Paulding, Debra Akers of Antwerp, and Jim and Debra Miles
of Paulding; and great-grandmother, Viola Williamson of Paulding.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandfather, Steve Williamson. Services
will be held at 1 p.m. today, Nov. 10, at Mast-Mock-Hoffman Funeral Home in
Defiance, with the Rev. Melvina Baxter officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside
Cemetery in Defiance.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.

ANTWERP Thomas Kevin Schmunk, 45, of Antwerp, died at 1:51 p.m. Friday,
Nov. 5, at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born June 23, 1959 in Hicksville, the son of Thomas E. and Jeane (Engle)
Schmunk, who survive in Antwerp. He graduated from Antwerp High School in 1977
and ITT Technical School in 1984. He worked at Uniroyal-Goodrich, Woodburn for
19-1/2 years and later at Tri-State Solarcrete, Antwerp. He was a member of
Antwerp United Methodist Church, enjoyed music, and was a NASCAR, Cleveland
Browns and Indians fan.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 10 at Dooley Funeral Home, Antwerp,
with the Rev. Greg Swann officiating. Burial will be in Maumee Cemetery, Antwerp.
