Irene F. Andrews, age 86, of Oakwood, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Mercy Health – Defiance Hospital. She was born on April 15, 1938, in Melrose, Ohio, to the late Deloy E. and Stella M. (Sherry) Porter. In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Andrews, on May 22, 2021; and her sisters, Frances Koenig, Norma Dix, Phyllis Porter, and Karen Sierer. Irene leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Barbara Andrews of Toledo, Ohio, Gloria (Michael) Tapp of Piqua, Ohio, Edward Andrews of Oakwood, Sara (Scott) McIntosh of Oakwood, and Donna (Colonel Thomas) Place of Hampton, Virginia; 18 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; her brother-in-law, Rex Sierer; and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family and friends. Irene married the love of her life, Gene, in Melrose, Ohio on November 4, 1955, and began raising their family. She was a woman beyond her era, being extremely tech-savvy, even working for the state and traveling from office to office training staff on how to use the computer systems. She was a Brown Township clerk for over 20 years and was very active in the Paulding County Republican Party. She was the teacher of the family. She taught her children and grandchildren how to sew, raise a garden, and how to can and freeze vegetables and fruits. She was in charge of teaching many of her grandchildren how to drive and rode with them for the many hours required. Irene was a social butterfly making friends everywhere she went. She had made many friends while attending water aerobics classes at the YMCA. She loved going to Florida where she would attend many events available throughout the 55+ community. She would ride her scooter and talk to everyone. Everyone loved her and will miss her dearly. Visitation will be Monday, December 16, 2024, from 10 AM to 11 AM at Bethel Christian Church of Arthur located at 14988 Co. Rd. 209, Defiance, Ohio 43512. A funeral service at the church will follow at 11 AM with Pastors Chris Baker and Terry Porter officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memory Gardens in Defiance. Flowers may be delivered to the church on Monday from 8 AM to 10 AM. If desired, memorial donations may be made to Bethel Christian Church.
