Ohio Farmers Push Back on MAHA Report:

DELAWARE, Ohio – Ohio farmers are expressing disappointment and frustration following the release of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) report, issued by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr. on Thursday, May 22, 2025. The report questions the safety of commonly used pesticides like atrazine and glyphosate, which are vital tools for modern agriculture in Ohio and across the U.S.

Tri-County ADAMHS Board’s Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training a success

The Tri-County Alcohol, Drug, and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board in partnership with the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office successfully completed its Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training program for local law enforcement and corrections officers from Mercer, Van Wert, and Paulding Counties. The training, held from May 5 to May 9 at the newly remodeled Tri-County ADAMHS Board Training Center in Van Wert, equipped 16 officers, deputies, corrections officers and school resource officers with crucial skills for effectively responding to mental health crises.

Crop Update

May has been a cold and wet and many farmers are struggling to get crops planted. Some for the first time. Others are already replanting. Although a week old, May 18th USDA’s crop progress report is probably fairly accurate with the recent rains. Estimates are that only 34% of corn acres are planted in Ohio, with 22% of corn emerged. Emerged acres are probably higher by now. Corn planting progress was behind the 5-year average (48%), but corn emergence was slightly ahead (20%) as of May 18th. For soybeans, 40% of soybean acre were planted and 24% of soybeans emerged.
