VAN WERT—Blake Tijerina has dreamed of opening a card and gaming store since he was a child. That dream will become a reality on April 5 when he opens Wild West Wizards at the corner of Washington and Main streets.
The Kiwanis Club of Paulding County was privileged to have Terry Minic,(Journey Lineman, Paulding Putnam Corporative ),as the guest speaker at the March 20, 2025, club meeting. Terry came at the invitation of Richard Price,(CEO, Pauling Putnam Corporative). Terry spoke to the Kiwanians about Project Indiana and the amazing things that the organization are doing for less fortunate communities in other countries. We take the modern conveniences electricity provides us for granted. But many families in remote areas of the world live the simplest of lives. They endure extreme hardships because electricity isn’t available. Through Project Indiana, Indiana’s electric cooperatives are empowering global communities one village at a time.
VAN WERT— Contestants from eight area schools competed Friday night at Lifehouse Church to see who would be crowned 50th Peony Festival Queen Jubilee.
In honor of National Ag Day on March 19, the Paulding FFA held their annual Tractor Drive-in Day and Parade to celebrate on Friday, March 21. 18 members drove their tractors to school including Johnny Lipps, Anna Clemens, Makenna Dunham, Jalyn Klopfenstein, Nick Hatcher, Grady Barton, Mariah Klopfenstein, Mackenzie Leatherman, Kayleigh Dunham, Owen Workman, RJ Wirts, Blake Trausch, Ava Leatherman, Aly White, Delaney Johanns Jackson Gunderman, Max and Kalan Burns, and Remington Boroff. The Paulding FFA members and the students who drove tractors showed the elementary students their tractors and allowed them to climb up in the tractors and explore them.
The board of directors of the John Paulding Historical Society, d/b/a Paulding County History Museum, has accepted the resignation of Melinda Krick as president.
Bakers and candy makers from around Paulding County are making more than 50 types of handmade sweets to sell at a one-day-only pop-up shop on Thursday, April 10 to benefit the Caring & Sharing Food Pantry. The Sweet Shop will feature many varieties of chocolates and other candy, 20 types of cookies, an array of pies, yeast and sourdough breads, cinnamon rolls, cupcakes and more.
On Saturday, March 22, the county’s Cub Scouts troops competed in the annual pinewood box derby race. Each den awarded first-place plaques to the winners, who will go on to the council race in April.
The Paulding County Carnegie Library is excited for Spring. Check out what is happening at one or all the branches. The library will close at noon on Good Friday, April 18. The library will be open on Saturday, April 19, during normal hours. National Library Week is April 6 through the 13.
