Comic book writer, artist and editor Jim Shooter passed away on June 30 at age 73. His was the story of a fan who broke into comics at the age of 14. He wrote for DC Comics for years on the adventures of the Legion of Super-Heroes, but also contributed many Supergirl and Superman stories.
Most adults, middle-aged or older, know what poison ivy looks like and steer clear of it. However, if you have never had the misfortune of experiencing the annoyingly itchy rash that poison ivy can cause, you may not have a good understanding of what it looks like.
It’s already 10:30 p.m. this Monday evening. We had a late night, but we accomplished a lot today. Daniel Ray and Verena are moved into their new living quarters. Son-in-laws Dustin, Daniel, Daniel Ray and Alvin (Daniel Ray’s father), and two of Daniel Ray’s brothers were here today helping build the walls in part of the pole barn. They made a bedroom, and it already has a bathroom. The living room, dining room, and kitchen will be an open concept. Not everything is done, but they have moved enough in to make it livable for now.

Lovina is taking this week off from the column to rest up after her busy week hosting Verena and Daniel Ray’s wedding. I am her “English” friend Ruth, and I helped Lovina last week by running errands and was able to attend the wedding so I will share a little about that.
About this time almost every year, we have to deal with high humidity and high temperatures. It is now officially summer, and it feels like it! After a cool, almost colder spring with plenty of moisture; the sun is shining and it is hot. Plants are starting to grow, but most fields are definitely behind schedule. Livestock also suffer during hot and humid periods of time.
We have just enjoyed the blooming of a unique native tree. Dotted here and there around the county, the tall trees with large, medium green, heart-shaped leaves and panicles of white flowers get noticed. These are northern catalpas.
