A Paulding man died Sunday morning in a house fire. Paulding Fire and Police arrived at the 2-story home, located at 609 W.

On August 28, 2024 at approximately 12:28 p.m., detectives from Fort Wayne Police Department (FWPD) requested assistance in the search of 8-month old Demi Shilling. Shilling was last seen on August 21, 2024, with the biological father Joshua Gaunt. FWPD requested officers to check a residence in the 500 block of Fountain Street, Southern Hills Apartments for Gaunt and Shilling. Gaunt and Shilling were located at the residence. FWPD detectives talked with Gaunt and Gaunt turned the child over to officers without incident. Shilling was transpored to Hicksville Police Department and turned over to the biological mother. The investigation has been turned over to FWPD.

Oakwood Mayor, Mr. Josh Duslak, recently signed a proclamation which made the Village of Oakwood a “Purple Heart Village.” This action makes Oakwood the 76th town in the State of Ohio to be proclaimed a Purple Heart Village on the National Military Order of the Purple Heart Trail.

Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney, Morris J. Murray, has released the following information regarding recent Indictments returned by a Defiance County Grand Jury on August 21, 2024: Bernard M. Bates, age 83, 1302 Byrnwyck Ct., Defiance, was indicted for Two Counts of Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor, each a Felony of the Second Degree, and Two Counts of Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor, each a Felony of the Fourth Degree. Authorities allege that from June 23, 2022, through August 8, 2022, Bates created\ reproduced, or published materials showing a minor participating or engaging in sexual activity, and he also possessed obscene materials that had a minor as one of its participants.

Defiance County ProsecutingAttorney Morris Murray has announced the release of the following information regarding certain pending Criminal matters: Prosecutor Murray has announced that Ashley N. Cole, a 34 year old Defiance woman, was sentenced to prison for Failure to Comply with an Order or Signal of a Police Officer, a Felony of the Third Degree, and Vandalism, a Felony of the Fifth Degree. She was also convicted of Operating a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol, a Drug of Abuse or a Combination of Them, a Misdemeanor of the First Degree, Also sentenced to prison for Failure to Comply with an Order or Signal of a Police Officer, a Felony of the Third Degree, was Rmilio Gonzalez, a 24 year old Findlay man. Lynn Sexton, a 32 year old Defiance woman, was also sentenced to prison for Aggravated Trafficking in Drugs, a Felony of the third Degree.
27, 1528 Mustang Dr., Defiance, was indicted for One Count of Possession of a Fentanyl-Related Compound, a Felony of the Fourth Degree. Authorities allege that on August 6, 2024, at a business on N. Clinton St., in Defiance, Canterbury was found in possession of over three grams off a Fentanyl-related compound.

At the August meeting of the Board of Education for Paulding Exempted Village Schools, the board enjoyed the recount of a successful first day of classes. Then they got a look at the reality of a school system budget with issues to be addressed.
