“The government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion”, declared President John Adams, a Christian, in the Treaty of Tripoli signed on June 10, 1797, with unanimous consent of an overwhelmingly Christian Senate.
There’s a current trend of increased transparency in local government. Council and board members have been elected running on a platform of transparency in local government. As citizens, we should welcome this, but accept the price of vigilance.
The voters passed our current redistricting constitutional provisions by a large vote with bipartisan support. Despite this, my personal experience with our current procedure is that it simply does not work very well.
One of the comic book titles that I collect is “Legion of Super-Heroes,” which encompasses sixty years of publishing. The members of the team almost live up to the name “legion,” measuring in the dozens, although not all of them being on the team at once. One character in particular captured a special place in my heart, existing as my favorite super-hero. That superhero is the infamous Matter-Eater Lad.
On July 30th, the president signed our new law: the AllAmerican Flag Act. Until now, the flags flown at military installations and government buildings, and even the flags that, tragically, are given to families of fallen service members, were not required to be completely made in America.
I just wanted to thank the entire community for turning out to donate—and then buy—the countless items for sale at the Caring & Sharing Food Pantry’s 127 Yard Sale. As a community (for we surely couldn’t have done it without all of your contributions), we raised just over $4,000 for the pantry. Money comes from item and refreshment sales and space rentals in our parking lot (think about it for next year), as well as just plain old, monetary donations during the event.
