One dead, two injured in fatal crash on US 24 in Paulding County

PAULDING – The Van Wert Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on March 4, 2025 at 12:41 p.m. The crash occurred on US 24 near Mile Post 18 in Emerald Township, Paulding County.

Baptismal services held at Lovina’s house

I want to write this column before I leave this morning. Daughter Loretta and I are attending the coffee break our church ladies are having for neighbor Susan. She had hip replacement surgery so this should cheer her up. Everyone always brings a lot of good food and it’s nice to visit before we all go home and start our day’s work. Dustin isn’t working today due to the rainy weather so he will keep a few of their children home with him.

WesBanco, Inc. completes acquisition of Premier Bank

WHEELING, West Virginia - WesBanco, Inc. (“WesBanco”) (Nasdaq: WSBC), a diversified, multi-state bank holding company, today announced the successful closing of the previously announced acquisition of Premier Financial Corp. (“Premier”) (Nasdaq: PFC). The holding company closing was promptly followed by the merger of Premier’s subsidiary bank, Premier Bank, with and into Wesbanco’s banking subsidiary, Wesbanco Bank, Inc. (the “Bank”). With the closing of the merger, WesBanco appointed Zahid Afzal, John L. Bookmyer, Louis M. Altman and Lee J. Burdman, formerly directors of Premier, to the WesBanco Board of Directors.

Holtsberry speaks on Paulding military history

The Kiwanis Club of Paulding County was privileged to have Mark Holtsberry,(Paulding County Commissioner and Local Author),as the guest speaker at the February 20, 2025, club meeting. Mark came at the invitation of Lisa McClure,(Paulding County Commissioner and fellow Kiwanian). Mark spoke to the Kiwanians about the military history in Paulding County and about his new Book that will be available soon, Men on the Wall Volume 1. Mark has wrote many books about the history of local military within the county and has brought many Gold Star families peace by providing handmade stones for their loved one’s unmarked graves. Thank you Mark for your passion and for all that you do for military families.

St. John and Friends Holy Week celebration

New strip till research

Dr. Jodi DeJong-Hughes has been doing strip till research in Minnesota for the past 20 years comparing it to conventional tillage practices on both corn and soybeans. She says the two most common questions farmers ask about are “Does Strip till allow my soils to warm up and dry out in the spring”, and the second is “Will crop yields suffer (decrease) with strip till.” Dr. DeJong-Hughes as set up her research trials to test those two farmer assumptions.

Term limits resolutions filed in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Representative Heidi Workman (district 72) and Senator Theresa Gavarone (district 2) have filed House Joint Resolution 3 (HJR3) and Senate Joint Resolution 6 (SJR6) for Ohio to join the states calling for a convention for proposing a congressional term limits amendment to the U.S. Constitution. The effort is being spearheaded by the nonpartisan, nonprofit, U.S. Term Limits (USTL).
