Archers, Panthers get season opening wins

A pair of Paulding County football teams opened the 2024 high school football season with victories Friday night as Antwerp and Paulding each recorded victories. The Archers visited Williams County and came home with a 34-0 victory over Montpelier behind 162 yards passing from quarterback Derek Hines.

Oakwood becomes Purple Heart Village

Oakwood Mayor, Mr. Josh Duslak, recently signed a proclamation which made the Village of Oakwood a “Purple Heart Village.” This action makes Oakwood the 76th town in the State of Ohio to be proclaimed a Purple Heart Village on the National Military Order of the Purple Heart Trail.

During Labor Rights Week 2024, Aug. 26-Aug. 31, the U.S. Department of Labor joins with many foreign embassies, including the Mexican Embassy and its 52 consulates, community and faith-based groups, and federal and state officials to promote the protection of rights to which every person who works in the U.S. is entitled.

Protecting Ohio workers from heat is a hot topic

In most of the nation, all you need to do is to step outside to feel one of Ohio’s deadliest hazards: extreme heat. So far in 2024, the dangers of heat illness have killed 34 workers nationally both indoors and out.

Oakwood Homecoming celebrated over Labor Day weekend

The Annual Oakwood Homecoming, always held over Labor DayWeekend, will kick off on Saturday, August 31. There will be breakfast at the Fire Station from 7 to 11, Golf Teams will tee off at 9 at Auglaize Country Club, and competitors will gather at the East end of town for the annual Tractor Pull. OSU fans can tailgate and watch the game on the big screen at the Landing Strip at 3. The Annual Alumni Banquet starts at 5:00 and at 8:00 the band “Kodebreakers” will perform on First Street.

New tires boost crop yields

New tire technology has the ability to boost crop yields by 7%. Several recent articles in No-till Farmer outlined the benefits and few disadvantages of new tire technology. Most older farm equipment use standard bias tires inflated to 35 pounds per square inch (psi) but now standard radical tires (20 psi), increased flexion tires (16 psi), and very high flexion tires (VF, 12 psi) allow tires to flex which decreases soil compaction and improves yield while saving farmers money on labor and fuel.
