Big, beautiful American poor

I grew up poor, that is, American poor. I fantasized about food at night–mashed potatoes, buttery dinner rolls, raspberry cheesecake. I would wake up and imagine a breakfast–strawberry waffles with whipped cream, cold orange juice–then, talk myself toward accepting what I knew was there–toast with peanut butter and usually, milk. My dad did not tolerate ungratefulness. 

The value of making a leaf collection

It seems as if it is a rite of passage for kids to make a leaf collection while in school. Sometimes, as it was for me, it is a bug collection. I was in the 10th grade and distinctly remember going on a bug hunt with Colleen, my best friend at the time.

Latty history book available

Latty Village was incorporated 145 years ago. In 1981, the village celebrated its centennial anniversary with a variety of activities including a parade, games, and lunch. But there was also a legacy given to the village for future generations, a booklet, Latty Village 100 Years 1881-1981.
