Eastern Redbuds: blushing beauties in our landscape

Spring is moving right along, and we have come to one of my favorite phases. To be honest, I enjoy every one of them, but I look forward to this particular one because of one thing – redbuds.

New agricultural research

Recent soybean research by Dr. Rafiq Islam, Ohio State University shows benefits from using sulfur fertilization and small doses of aspirin or salicylic acid (SA, a fulvic acid) to increase soybean yields. Soybeans are planted on about 86.5 million USA acres. Yearly increases in soybean yields have been flat and with lower prices, farmers are looking for ways to get higher yields. Hot weather, drought, flooding and other environmental issues have caused soybean yields to stagnate.

Question, Persuade, Refer Training to be held May 1

Coffee & Dessert Parent—professional “Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR) Training”, will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 4:30p.m. - 6:30 p.m., at the Paulding County Fairgrounds Extension building, 503 Fairground Drive, Paulding, This QPR training will be presented by Sarah Noggle, QPR Certified Instructor, OSU Extension Office.

Wayne Trace artists exhibit at three area shows

Throughout the spring, the art students at Wayne Trace High School have been extremely busy showcasing their work around the region. In the Scholastic Art Show which just wrapped up at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, six Raiders exhibited pieces. Senior Luke Stouffer received a Gold Key and a Silver Key, Junior Axel Bidlack received a Gold Key, Senior Fern Jackson received a Silver Key and an Honorable Mention, Senior Aiden Lee received a Silver Key, Junior Natalie Richie received an Honorable Mention, and sophomore Boston Font received an Honorable Mention. Senior Aiden Lee was also one of only six artists in the entire Northeast Indiana/Northwest Ohio Region to have his portfolio selected for recognition, receiving a Silver Key for his series of works.

WT engineering students visit Dana,Inc.

On Wednesday April 9th, the Wayne Trace High School the students, from Ed Stuart’s Engineering Design Class traveled to Dana Incorporated for a class field trip. The field trip is a requirement for the CTE Engineering Pathway and the purpose of the visit was to expose the students to real world engineering design procedures and processes.
