SAMUEL SMITH
Samuel “Sam” Richard Smith, age 40, of Paulding, Ohio, passed away peacefully in his home on October 22, 2025 surrounding by family and friends. Born in Hicksville, Ohio, Sam grew into a man known for his unwavering work ethic, generous spirit, and genuine kindness toward everyone he met.
Sam served as the Paulding County Ditch Maintenance Supervisor for many years, where his dedication and pride in his work left a lasting mark on the community. Yet, his greatest passion was found in lawn care a love that began when he was just eight years old. Over the next 32 years, he built and grew his own business, pouring his heart into every job and treating each customer like family.
More than anything, Sam cherished his family. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and loyal friend the kind of man who could always be counted on. He married the love of his life, Ashley (LaBounty) Smith, July 20, 2013, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and purpose. Sam was the proud father of four beautiful girls Lailah, Sophia, Adriana, and Caroline, who were his greatest joy.
He is survived by his wife and children; his parents, Jerry (Brenda) Smith and Linda Zuber; five sisters, nieces, nephews, many extended family members, and friends who will forever remember his outgoing personality, stubbornness, sense of humor, dependability and helping heart.
He was preceded in death by sister Vicki Sprow, mother-in-law Susan LaBounty, grandparents Richard and Christine Zuber and grandparents Richard and Erma Smith.
Sam’s life was a testament to hard work, faith, and family. His hands may be at rest, but his impact will continue to grow in the hearts of those he touched. He will always be remembered as being “kind of a big deal.”
