Latty Village was incorporated 145 years ago. In 1981, the village celebrated its centennial anniversary with a variety of activities including a parade, games, and lunch. But there was also a legacy given to the village for future generations, a booklet, Latty Village 100 Years 1881-1981.
The year 1869 marks a significant milestone in the history of American sports as it witnessed the birth of professional baseball, thanks to the visionary efforts of Harry Wright and the Cincinnati Red Stockings. This groundbreaking development transformed baseball from a leisurely pastime into a professional sport, paving the way for the thriving baseball culture we know today.
On July 11, a small delegation from Crane Township traveled to Hillsdale, Michigan, to meet Louise Van Aken Worms, a great-great-great-granddaughter of Oliver Crane, the township’s namesake and one of its earliest settlers.

I don’t remember much about third grade during school hours, but after school I do remember my first cigarettes. Both of my parents smoked, as did a lot of adults then. I was already old enough to carry the trash from the house to the backyard burning barrel and use matches to light the fire.
